xbox 360 Achievement Points

I finally bought a 360 a few weeks ago and I’ve noticed I’ve unlocked a lot of achievement points playing through a few of the games I’ve got. Do they serve any purpose other than bragging rights? You can’t use them to buy stuff on xbox live can you? I don’t have on-line access since I need to buy the accessory that will let me connect to my wireless router first.

I just want to know if the points are of any value other than bragging rights before I go trying to maximize my points.

nope they are strictly for bragging rights or setting up personal goals for yourself. You cant use them for anything

they're just for bragging rights. i think in gears of war 2, you'll actually unlock some extra characters if you've completed certain achievements from gears of war 1 though.

btw, SHT, you should poke your head in the products forum when you get a chance. you've been MIA forever.

Yeah, I've been pretty busy lately. I just got married and am in grad school so I'm still trying to manage my time. I got a great deal on the 360 so I got it, but I barely have time to play it. That's why I'm kind of glad the points don't really do anything so I won't have to spend time I don't have trying to get them.

They did that once, it was supposed to become a regular thing, but I guess it didn't go over very well because they haven't done it again.

They might be interlaced with the Avatars, allowing you to unlock clothes etc.. for them with the achievements.

One thing I really like about "Achievements" is IMO it extends the life of a game for me. Usually if I beat a game Id just trade it in at Gamestop but now I'll try for beating it on Hard or try for those special kills. It adds a little something to the game and sure people can say its pointless since you cant do anything with the points but it shows some of the things you were able to do and if people hate on ya for that then maybe they werent good enough to get that achievement
