I have a friend that told me that the xbox elite has built in wireless, but is this true? A Best Buy employee told me that the xbox elite requires a wireless adapter just like the other 360 consoles which is about $69 and up.

So someone with an elite, please tell me if the elite requires the adapter or if it is already build in. Thanks!

I'm still baffled as to why Microsoft didn't add a wireless adapter to the 360. XBOX is all about online play, so why not make it easier for people?

Yea, good question, my guess is to keep cost down intially. I mean if they added a wireless adapter, youd have to pay for it, so with this way, they arent making you pay for something you dont need. I know for the first 2 years that i had my xbox, i didnt need the adapter. I just used an ethernet cord.

Thanks guys for letting me know. I finally broke down and ordered an adapter and xbox live for 13 months. I got the adapter for $80, so at least it wasn't quite $100.

I just couldn't wait any longer to play Left 4 Dead on-line. I've also got Gears 2, so I know I'm missing out on a lot without being able to go on-line.

whats the difference between an elite and a regualr 360. I have an elite, and I was pretty doinked when I had to pay $99 for an adaptor

Well, Elite has 120GB HD and has both its console and controller painted black. Pro only has 60GB HD and is white, like Arcade edition. Other than that, these two are pretty much the same.

they painted it black? are you sure it's just not black plastic?

it is black plastic.

as for the differences:

arcade: white with white dvd tray, no HD, has a 256mb memory card (newer models with a 'Jasper' motherboard have the 256mb memory built in) and comes with power cord with brick and AV cable with red/white audio and yellow for video

pro: white with chrome dvd tray, 20 or 60 gig HD depending on which one you got. comes with power cord with brick, a av cable with both red/white as well as optical jack for audio and yellow and red/blue/green component cables with a switch to go from standard (yellow video) or HD (red/blue/green)

both of these come with a wireless controller and 2 AA batteries.

elite: black with chrome dvd tray, 120 gig HD, black wireless controller, power cord with brick. same av cable that comes with the pro as well as a HDMI cable and a unit that plugs into the HDMI port of the Elite that has both the red/white audio and a jack for optical for dolby digital 5.1 systems. a black wired headset, a ethernet cable.

I know the differences between the consoles...but what I'm wondering is this: Is the jump to Elite THAT big of a deal? When I had my original 360 it was a 20GB model that I didn't really use THAT much space on. Now, I do download a decent amount of games but my PS3 is 60 GB and I've only used about 20 or so gb's.

I suppose what it comes down to is will I be installing alot of my games. Part of me wants to say yes, I've heard from friends that the noise is reduced DRASTICLY so...I'll want to go that route.

But I just wonder if it's worth an extra 100 bucks.
