aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand fired.

"If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" comes to mind.

He has a point. It is stupid. It's also stupid for gaming machines to have internet browsers, DVD/Blu-ray players, and other unneccessary things. They're gaming machines, leave them at that.

I use my 360 as my DVD player.

It doesn't hurt my gaming experience to have this somewhere in the Dashboard, so who cares.

Okay? So did I, that still doesn't mean that it's not stupid.

How is it stupid to have a DVD player in a gaming device?

They've been trying to sell the 360 as the all around media center of the home, and they've been doing a pretty decent job outside of not having blu-ray capability.

It's a gaming device, so it only needs to play games. My phone doesn't need a camera because it's a phone. It's just stupid.

It's even funnier that he's directing this comment at the DSi, but in effect is calling his out the company that employs him. Not the smartest apple in the bunch.

It's also funny because using the DSi to take a photo and send it to Facebook is a much better function then being able to check status updates on my 360.

I think his comment was taken out of context, his comment isnt about Facebook, its about the camera in the DSi. I think ppl saw Facebook in the middle of his comments and was like "look, he's making fun of facebook" when he clearly wasnt.

He's basically saying a camera in the DSi, wooptee doo.

its stupid for you but that doesnt mean that its not something that people look for and use. If its no extra cost to them, why shouldnt MS have the 360 have DVD capabilities?

The only one that has a browser is the PS3, and it's barely even advertised as a feature (as this "facebook" thing will most likely be). The DVD thing is a no-brainer, I think. Saves time, money, and space I think.

Console gaming USED to be a solitary thing. For me, it still kinda is.

But, people want to stay connected to other people.

Now, if Microsoft or Sony wanted to offer a console with no DVD, no browser, or none of these other features...and charge alot less money, that might be a worthy thought.

that stuff doesnt add a signifcant cost to the systems. Throwing in a browser, DVD player, etc... are negligible when it comes to manufacturing and its extra stuff they are including for the users. The PS3's blu-rayer is probably the only extra feature that has had an impact on pricing and even that is nowhere near as costly as it was 3 years ago when it launched

It is extra for them, though. The PS3 didn't need to have a BR player and got a price hike because it was expensive to include one. I'm pretty sure at least some of our Live Gold membership fees are going to implementing stuff like Facebook, too. I'm not as wholly against it as the Ferret, since Microsoft would still probably be charging us the same membership fees anyway, but it is a bit depressing to know that I'm effectively paying for stuff I will never, ever use. I don't even use Facebook on my PC.

Doesn't the PS3 need a blu ray player since the games are written on blu-ray?

Or am I completely misunderstanding the tech.

I'm talking about back in the design phase. Sony decided they wanted to make a multimedia machine when all I personally wanted was a game machine. So Sony included a Blu-Ray player and, when the time came for me to eventually buy a PS3, I paid for the Blu-Ray player in the form of a higher price tag on the system. And even then, Sony was probably still eating some of the cost on it. You don't get something for nothing; if a game machine has more features than just playing games, you are paying for it in some way.

Yeah, I agree.

If I'm getting the barebones...I better get chaged the skeleton price.

I don't even own a DVD player anymore just because I've got them in the form of my PS3 and 360.

And yeah, Pat's right. People didn't read what the guy said.

Which is why I said aside from blu-ray. Has MS raised the price of Gold membership? Nope. What is wrong with them adding stuff especially if they arent charging the gamer extra for it? I personally dont see the issue with this.

Eh, whatever. I'm not renewing my Gold membership after this year anyway, so it doesn't really affect me.

Hahaha, people getting crazy about DVD playback of all things is hilarious. Seriously, there is nothing wrong or stupid about gaming systems having these features.
