Xenoblade Chronicles X

Xenoblade Chronicles X Shows How You’re Always Connected To Other Players. April 10, 2015 . 8:31am

While in Network mode, you’ll get to find other BLADE members out there to recruit. You’ll then get to use these AI recruits of other players in combat.

Earlier today, Xenoblade Chronicles X finally showed us what we’ve all been waiting for—details on Dolls. In addition, the latest livestream also shared information on how the game’s Networking system works.

While in Network mode, you’ll get to find other BLADE members out there to recruit. You’ll then get to use these AI recruits of other players in combat, similar to the way you’d get Elma or Lyn in your party. Your character may perhaps be used as part of another player’s Network.

Your character can also be part of a 32-man “Squad”. Squads consist of 32 players in the same network that are out exploring Mira, and they’ll be there to help each other out.

For example, a character from your Squad may share reports on certain findings, like quest objectives, and everyone in the group will be able to check it out. Reports can be rated, and if they receive a high enough rating, they will become visible to all players even outside the Squad.

The “Treasure Deal” is a special feature that allows you to give and receive equipment from within the Squad. The way it works is, a player can mark a certain piece of equipment they’re willing to give away and put it up for notice in the Squad board. Any member that wants it can join for a chance to get it, but if multiple players do, it will select one at random.

Squad Missions are subjugation missions that require you and other Squad members to take out various types of enemies. This gives you a feeling of cooperating with other faraway players, as the number indicated under the monster types will diminish whenever a player takes one down.

When any of the five objectives of a Squad Mission is met, you can participate in a Squad Quest. These are special missions that allow you and four members team up together for a quest, starting at a network terminal located at the BLADE home.

This is where you can recruit or sign up for different Squad Quests. These can also be done with AI characters. Clearing Squad Quests advance your research in Planet Mira, and increase your conquest development.

Additionally, by increasing your conquest development enough, you’ll eventually find “World Enemies”. These are powerful giant enemies that are much stronger than Overed. They’ll be difficult to fight, but they’ll surely have nice rewards for doing so.

As previously reported, players are split into eight different factions as a member of BLADE. These determine different types of missions they get, but as an extra bit of fun, they also compete against one another to see who contributes the most, and you can check it out in Network Mode as part of the “Uniongram”.

For example, Path Finders may get points for setting Data Probes, while Interceptors might get them for taking out certain monsters. As seen in the above image, the contributions of each Union faction is indicated, with the top having a “Fever” marker.

There are all kinds of different personal rankings. These range from most kills to most Union points, and there are even Time Attack rankings. You can aim to get the top spot of certain rankings that nobody might seem to go for, or compete with the large crowd for some of the greater rankings. You might even find yourself as the top without realizing it.

How Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Mecha Dolls Work In Battle. April 10, 2015 . 1:02pm

In Xenoblade Chronicles X, Dolls give you a whole lot of options during battles.

Earlier today, we got a closer look at Xenoblade Chronicles X’s different types of Dolls and how they fight. We also got a look at some of their advanced features that showcased the different ways of attacking and defending during battle, among other tidbits of information.

It might sound enticing to gear your Dolls up with the most powerful weapons and having the best Arts, but it’s actually recommended not to focus on a single or certain type of Art for your Dolls.

Arts on Dolls can use more fuel depending on what you’re using, so abusing powerful Arts that consume a lot of fuel might leave you empty for a while, and you won’t be able to use any Arts.

Running out of fuel also means no more flying, so you’ll want to make sure to leave some for when you need it. Fuel replenishes on its own when you dismount the Doll, but this is slow. You can fill it up in NLA, but it costs quite a lot of Miranium.

Similar to fighting as your character on the land, where you do combos of Topple and Break enemies, Dolls have their own combo attacks that go from a Topple to a “Catch”.

When under a “Catch” effect, enemies can’t move or attack, and it increases your damage and accuracy. Since enemies can’t attack while under a Catch effect, it’s the best opportunity to damage them up.

second

While using Arts in battle, it will occasionally activate a Cockpit Mode. While in this mode, it instantly recasts all of your Arts, so you’ll be able to use them right away; however, it has a low chance of happening, so it’s more of a matter of luck.

Dolls can also go into their own Overclock Gear Mode. In addition to the added attack power, depending on the type of Doll, there are various effects such as recast speed up or critical hit rate up.

While fighting as Dolls, you’ll also need to be careful when getting hit. For example, enemies can break your parts, too, and can even destroy your Doll. Early on, they’ll repair your Doll for free, but after the fourth time, it will be expensive to get your Doll repaired.

This means you’ll need to know when to make a run for it when things get dangerous or at least take your Doll out of battle if it seems like it’s about to get destroyed. Once the battle is over, the Doll and its parts will recover health, including the broken parts.

It might sound a bit like a losing fight if you have to get off your Doll, but having a Doll on the side has its own merits, as they can help increase your defense while attacking from the side. Having it go into “Doll Defense” mode increases your character’s defense. Having one goes up by 20%, and any extras from your party members will add an extra 20% to it, making it possible to take on tough foes.

Additionally, players can equip special “Doll Suits” which have low stats while fighting as a character alone, but provide nice boosts while using Dolls. These are recommended for party members that specialize in fighting on Dolls.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is slated for release in Japan on April 29, 2015 for Wii U. The game will release in the West later this year.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Disc Version Will Have Download Packs For Faster Loading. April 13, 2015 . 12:25pm

Four Data Packs to be available for optional download, if you own the disc version of Xenoblade Chronicles X

Earlier in the year, Monolith Soft hinted that Xenoblade Chronicles X would have some sort of special mechanism in place that would allow the game to stream its world as seamlessly as possible, without the need for loading screens. This mechanism, the studio said, would be implemented specifically for the disc version of the game, since reading data off a disc is slower than a hard drive.

Now, we know just what this mechanism is. In Japan, Nintendo and Monolith are making four large data packs available for download that will allow more data to be read off the Wii U’s hard drive and will allow for seamless exploration. These packs are as follows:

Basic Data Pack (2 GB) – Effect: Large
A data pack containing terrain data that will allow faster loading while in the city and the game’s various fields. The Basic Data Pack is required for other Data Packs to work.

Enemy Data Pack (2.7 GB) – Effect: Medium
Installs enemy data to the HDD, and when combined with the Basic Data Pack further speeds up load times while out in the field.

Player Data Pack (3.6 GB) – Effect: Medium
Will install data pertaining to the armour and graphics of the player. When combined with the Basic Data Pack, it will speed up loading in the city and when equipping changes in the shops in New Los Angeles.

Doll Data Pack (1.7 GB) – Effect: Medium
Will install data pertaining to the Doll mechs. When combined with the Basic Data Pack, it will speed up read times when Dolls appear. This will lead to faster loading in the city and in the fields.

Monolith mention on the Xenoblade Chronicles X website that all of these data packs are already included with the download version of the game, so you will only need them if you own the disc version and want to further improve your experience. However, they are not required to play the game.

Xenoblade Chronicles X will be released in Japan on April 29th. A Western release is planned for sometime later this year.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Shows The Different Types Of Mechs You Can Create. April 16, 2015 . 1:30am

In addition to being able to give them different weapon parts, you’ll also get to heavily customize your Doll’s appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

The mechs in Xenoblade Chronicles X, called “Dolls,” will play an important role in defending the human race on Planet Mira. In addition to being able to give them different weapon parts, you’ll also get to customize them with their own looks. The official website shares the latest details.

[YT]7IwMoproWI0[/YT]

The above video shows how you’ll get to customize your Doll at the Blade Home. In addition to various equipment, you’ll also get to name your Doll and change different colors using the Hue, Saturation, and Brightness options in the My Garage menu.

As previously reported, Dolls come in different shapes and sizes, so it’ll be up to you to decide on what kind of mecha you’d like to ride while exploring Planet Mira. Here’s a look at some of the customized Dolls made by some staff at Monolith Soft:

Collection #1:

“I wanted to make something using white, blue, and yellow, to give it a more robot-like coloring. I think I managed to get that down? Anyway, this screen is taken at the starting point of the BLADE headquarters.” (Programmer S)

Collection #2:

“I’d like to freely fly around the vast skies! That will come true with a Doll! (lol) Dolls can take you anywhere, and, well, you can basically fly to all kinds of areas. ‘I’ll beat the enemies on the ground!’ is the feel I went for, while giving it an angle as if it were watching from above.” (Motion staff A)

Collection #3:

“Aren’t those round shoulders and rabbit-like ears on the head just so cute? As for the colors, I went with all pink. While it can transform into a vehicle on land, I decided to leave it the way it is with a waterfall in the background (lol).” (Map staff T)

Collection #4:

“This was taken during night time at the ‘Continent of White Trees’. It’s quite dusky. The plants are also kind of glowing. That’s the kind of scenery I wanted to quietly assimilate. An enemy could take advantage of this and attack from behind. Victory goes to the first to attack! Just win!” (Planner M)

Collection #5:

“There are some fire sparks flying in the background, but that’s nothing compared to the pressure you see from the bottom-half of this body. I’ve always preferred heavier robots. It might look too heavy, but it can fly around just as light as any other. There are places you can also go with just Dolls, but best of all, it looks like it’d hurt like hell to get kicked by those thick legs.” (Model staff M)

Xenoblade Chronicles X will release in Japan on April 29th and later this year in North America and Europe for Wii U.

These Are Your Seven Mechs In Xenoblade Chronicles X. April 16, 2015 . 12:35pm

An even closer look at the different model types for the Dolls, along with a look at their vehicle transformations.

We recently got a look at the different types of mechs you can create in Xenoblade Chroncicles X. The official website gives us an even closer look at the different model types for the Dolls, along with a look at their vehicle transformations.

Keep in mind that these are the basic frames for each mech series. Every mech can be outfitted with a wide range of weapon parts, which allows you to customize them to a great extent. The colour of individual mech parts can be altered with great flexibility as well, which you can see in action here.

Formula Series (Light):
These are the standard deployment models that use a light frame as their base. Formula models excel at high-speed combat and have a motorcycle-type transformation. The Formula series is the base frame of all other Dolls. It’s one of the cheaper models and equipped with the JINRAI Gear.

Urban Series (Light):
A machine built with a light frame base for urban deployment. It has high durability and fighting capabilities, but its enhanced armor takes away from its mobility and its operation time. The Urban vehicle transformations have great control. Urbans come equipped with the OBORO Gear. (Note: Lynlee uses the Urban series.)

Wels Series (Light):
While the Wels series does have a light base, it is a custom model that has the power of a middle-frame class. It may take a little getting used to, but it’s a highly effective machine. It’s equipped with the “G-Buster” shoulder mount, which was originally developed for the Wels. The Wels come equipped with the HAGANE Gear. (Note: Wels is Elma’s favourite model.)

Lailah Series (Medium):
The Lailah is a custom machine with a medium-frame base. It was made with the concept of having a light class build with mobility, although it does pack extra power with its heavier weight. They come equipped with the “F-Rifle,” which was originally developed for this series. The Lailah uses the NAGI Gear.

Inferno Series (Medium):

The Inferno is a custom build with a middle-frame base. These were one of the most produced Dolls, as they were created to be mainstay machines. Infernos have high durability and are equipped to hold their own in both melee and long-ranged combat. They are equipped with the “B-Gatling,” which was originally developed for the Inferno series. This model uses the HIBANA Gear.

Mastema Series:
The Mastema is made with a heavy-frame base to go with its multiple legs. It excels at long-ranged combat, but its heavy weight gives it a little trouble when it comes to mobility. It’s equipped with the “M-Sniper,” which was originally developed for the Mastema. The Mastema comes with the GEKITETU Gear.

Amdusias Series:
Built with a heavy-frame base and a tracked vehicle transformation. The Amdusias was made to fight in melee range, and has the highest durability and fighting power of all the Dolls, but is also the most expensive. It’s equipped with the “E-Scythe,” which was originally developed for the model. The Amdusias uses the KURENAI Gear.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Will Let You Toggle Your Character’s Head Gear For Cutscenes. April 17, 2015 . 12:30pm

Director Koh Kojima tweets another fun little tidbit pertaining to character customization.

xenobx_thumb.jpg

As you know by now, Xenoblade Chronicles X has a plethora of customization features pertaining to both your avatar and the mechs that you’ll get to pilot within the game. This week, director Koh Kojima tweeted another fun little tidbit pertaining to character customization.

Xenoblade Chronicles X has a great deal of equipment to outfit your character with, and some of this equipment consists of visors or helmets that will cover their face. However, if you would prefer for your character’s face to be visible during the game’s cutscenes, there will be an option available to toggle this feature on and off.

Unlike Fashion Equipment, this option will be available right from the start of the game, Kojima added.

Kojima also touched upon one of the game’s multiplayer features this week, this one pertaining to the multiplayer Squad and Union system we outlined earlier.

“Once you’ve progressed to a certain point in the game, the Squad option becomes available. You can choose between the solo play type and the multiplayer type,” Kojima tweeted.

“You can also choose to be part of your friends’ Squad,” he continued. “When the player in question is online, you can change the Union you’re a member of in exchange for a fixed amount of (in-game) money. You can choose to be calculating and switch to well-placed Unions, or decide to work on bringing your own Union’s rank up.”

Kojima also clarified that your Union salary will be affected by your actions pertaining to your Union. In addition, there will also be Doll Maintenance Tickets that can be used once your Doll’s insurance runs out.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Story Trailer Depicts Drama Between Earthlings And Aliens. April 22, 2015 . 1:03am

The latest trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X shows off a bit more of the game’s story.

Monolith Soft previously shared a glimpse of an unknown alien race that the humans will stand up against in order to survive in Planet Mira of Xenoblade Chronicles X. The latest trailer shows off a bit more of the game’s story, and how it will involve a conflict around said aliens.

[YT]boBSQXVo5lU[/YT]
The trailer starts out with planet Earth exploding, following with the quote of “we lost Earth, and came all the way to this planet…” The narration then says, “don’t die, please come back to NLA,” while a vicious battle is seen taking place inside New Los Angeles on planet Mira. It appears that the mysterious alien race seen in earlier trailers aren’t exactly welcoming Earthlings with open arms, and are doing everything they can to eradicate them from Mira.

An unknown character with white hair and purple eyes is then shown pointing a gun at Elma, telling her “you can either calmly hand it over to us, or fight,” while Lyn shouts “but aren’t we all allies of BLADE?!” It sounds as though there’s some sort of internal drama going on.

Elma explains that future of mankind depends their survival on Mira, and their will to live won’t be altered by anything. At the same time, we see various members of BLADE go up against the hostile alien race with their own Doll-like mecha units.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is slated for release in Japan on April 29, 2015 for Wii U. The game will release in North America and Europe later this year.

A Look Into Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Scorching Continent Of Black Steel. April 23, 2015 . 2:45am

Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Planet Mira is made of five different continents that are split into various regions. The official website shows a look into the Continent of Black Steel.

The entire Continent of Black Steel is made of one large volcanic region, but there appears to be different kinds of life in the area with rare-looking plants and what appears to be a four-legged monster.

The character in the above image is walking around in lava, so you might need some kind of special equipment of effect to be able to do so. Judging by the looks of their health, perhaps Elma and Lyn forgot to bring their own anti-lava boots..

While it may look like one of the tougher areas at the Continent of Black Steel, you’ll have to do your best to discover different views and explore unknown areas. You might even find some super rare items hidden behind all that magma flowing around.
Xenoblade Chronicles X will release in Japan on April 29th and later this year in North America and Europe for the Wii U.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Will Receive New Mechs And Party Members As DLC. April 28, 2015 . 11:31am

DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles X will include new characters, quests and Skell mechs and will be divided into four bundles.

Xenoblade Chronicles X will have paid DLC, Nintendo have announced. The DLC will include new characters, quests and Skell mechs and will be divided into four bundles.

Each DLC bundle will cost 500 yen and will include a single character, three quests that unlock that character upon completion, Arts that can be used in combat, and a unique Skell mech blueprint (or weapon blueprint in one case). Here’s a look at the different bundles:

HB DLC Pack:

  • HB will become available as a companion after completing his quests
  • HB’s unique Arts, “Atomic Bash” and “Frame Hand”
  • Blueprints and materials for the Skell “POLICEMEN”

Boze DLC Pack:

  • Boze will become available as a companion after completing his quests
  • Boze’s unique Arts, “Vortex” and “Bayonet Arts”
  • Blueprints and materials for the Skell “YUMBO”

Yelouv DLC Pack:

  • Yelouv will become available as a companion after completing his quests
  • Yelouv’s unique Arts, “Spirit Change” and “Powered Gunner”
  • A new weapon, the Multigun. The multigun can transform between a cannon, missile, or rifle, and your Arts will change depending on its form.

Axena DLC Pack

  • Axena will become available as a companion after completing her quests
  • Axena’s unique Arts, “Overspec” and “Voltage Max”
  • Blueprints and materials for the Skell “EXCAVATOR”

Players will be able to buy all four DLC packs individually for 500 yen each, and as an added bonus, if you haven’t completed the game yet, the Fashion Equipment option will automatically get unlocked if you purchase any of the above packs.

In addition, Xenoblade Chronicles X will also have support quest packs that make it easier to acquire materials and money or experience or Union points, depending on the pack you buy. These will cost 300 yen each. Alternatively, players have the choice of buying all the DLC for the game—characters and support quests—for 2,000 yen, saving 900 yen off the regular price. This basically means you pay the cost of the four character/Skell DLC packs and get all the support quest packs for free.

All DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles X will be available in Japan on May 8th.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Was Originally Going To Have A Fixed Main Character. April 28, 2015 . 1:03pm

Xenoblade Chronicles X was originally going to have a fixed main character, but this facet of the game was changed halfway through development.

Xenoblade Chronicles X
was originally going to have a fixed main character, but this facet of the game was changed halfway through development, developers at Monolith Soft and Nintendo reveal in an Iwata Asks interview.

“In the middle of development, we decided to make [the game] compatible with online play, so we had a ‘mass construction’ to change the main character into an avatar and rewrite some of the story to match with the content,” says Nintendo’s Genki Yokota.

Yokota and the other staff participating in the interview say that they believed playing in a large, open-world environment would start to feel lonely, which is part of the reason they wanted players to be able to connect with others over the Internet. That having been said, they also wanted to give players the choice of whether or not they would actively communicate with others while connected to them, which is how the Squad system that maintains a passive connection among 32 players was formed.

“It’s unpleasant to meet mean players online, but on the other hand, there are times it feels too troublesome to communicate with players with good intentions, too,” says Xenoblade Chronicles X director Koh Kojima. “But even if you play alone to avoid the trouble, it can still feel very lonely.”

Kojima then adds that it was his own past experiences that prompted him allow players to connect more loosely with one another and trade items, even if they intended to play the game by themselves. He states: “From personal experience, before I went into the game industry, I suddenly felt lonely playing videogames by myself at home while the family was out. It made me think, ‘Should I really be playing video games right now?’ However, when my family was in the living room next to the room I was in, feeling their presence in another room made me feel at ease. I wanted to somehow recreate that feeling of relief in the online experience.”

As previously reported, Xenoblade Chronicles X matches you up with 32 other players if your Wii U is connected to the Internet. While connected to this 32-man squad, you can share information and trade items with the other players. Additionally, missions will occasionally pop up for Squad members to complete (go defeat 10 of X enemy, go gather 10 of Y item, and so on), and once they’re completed the entire squad will receive the associated rewards. Beyond gathering missions, the game will also generate special missions like multiplayer boss battles, which up to four players will be able to take on together, which is the more traditional multiplayer aspect of the game.

“Connecting loosely with other players isn’t troublesome, but feeling the presence of other players online won’t make you lonely. So I hope players won’t be afraid to try this feature out,” Yokota says.

Xenoblade Chronicles X will be released in Japan tomorrow. A Western release is planned for later in 2015.
