I want to get into the DC Universe. I've read Batman Year One and I'm wondering if there are any similar graphic novels for the other characters that would be good for someone starting to get into DC. I'm getting Martian Manhunter: Others Among Us, for Christmas. The Amazon review said it was good for newbies, so I've got MM and Bats covered.

They have done "Year One" stories for JLA, Nightwing, Teen Titans, Green Arrow, Metamorpho, and currently (or maybe coming soon) one for Black Lightning. Plus there was a Secret Origins series in the 80s

Steve Niles' The Creeper is a reboot basically. Superman's Origin is going to be retold soon in his solo and Green Lantern's (Hal Jordan) was just recently retold in his solo.

Theres also a number of short stories on dccomics.com under secret origins or something originally published with the weekly titles.

Two really good Year One-esque stories for Superman are Man of Steel (it takes place over several years, actually) and Birthright. Neither one of them are in continuity anymore, but they're both still very good stories.

I also heard Green Arrow Year One was really good and that Teen Titans Year One was...not.

Green Lantern: Secret Origin (Hardcover) is on sale at Amazon. That is a good one to get.

Go with Green Lantern Secret Origin. Or, if you want another take on it get DC: The New Frontier. Both of which, I highly recommend.

JLA Year One is one of the best JLA stories ever.It focuses on GL,Flash,Aquaman,Canary,Martian Manhunter and Green Arrow to a point.Guys like Aquaman and Manhunter are really put to good use here,Waid gets all these characters and what makes them awesome.

Meltzer did away with it in his JLA run,but Waid apparently reintegrated it via the 52 origin back ups.Either way,who gives a ****,a good story is a good story regardless of continuity issues and JLA Year One is one of DC's finest offerings.

Robin: Year One is fantastic and very under-rated! 'Specially if you've read Dark Victory and are hungry for more.

Waid did a Wally West Year One to kick off his Flash run back in the day...

^You're talking about the Born to Run trade right?

I have Green Arrow Year One it's about Oliver on the Island that makes him go from annyoning good for nothing jerk to Green Arrow. It is a awsome read.

Teen Titans Year One was HORRIBLE. I adored the art though.

Put down another vote for Green Arrow: Year One. I love it and it made Green Arrow one of my favorite comic book characters.

Wait Man of Steel isn't in continuity anymore? That's quite sad, I enjoyed that run.

I haven't been reading anything with any sort of regularity and seeing all these Kryptonians etc. is just confusing. Whatever happened to being the Last Son of Krypton?

Geoff Johns happened. He's rewriting Superman's origin with the upcoming Secret Origin, too.

Oh yeah, that. Outside of Yu's art, that sucked too. It seems like every time Waid rewrites something to the way he wants it, he's terrible, but when he just goes with what he's got, he's good. Odd, that.
