For some reason you get the opportunity to meet with Chris Nolan. He gives you one Smallville episode to show him to convince him Welling (& possibly the rest of the cast) is perfect for a new movie. What episode would you show him?

As a caveat. Since Lex hasn't been on lately. You get one episode or scene to show him to convince him Rosenbaum would be a perfect Lex.

First of all, I doubt Nolan would use SV's entire cast, lol.

But, just to be fair and answer your question, I would actually pick the pilot to show Nolan Tom Welling's acting chops.

And for Michael...I would actually pick "Descent", just because, to me, that had to be the most evil I've seen Lex in the series. And that's what this movie will have, an evil Lex of course.

For Michael, I would choose Descent or Onyx. Onyx is the"I am the villian of the story episode. With good and evil Lex.

I would never show him a whole episode. I'd show him selected scenes.

For instance, one of the scenes that I think he's very good in, is the scene at the end of 'Warrior' where he's talking to the little boy about being a hero.

Thought he had some of his best moments in 'Salvation' but I generally like him in episode that others might consider filler that are more straightforward to me. Anything with him playing the mentor or big brother has shown his Superman qualities best to me. I'd go with the Welling directed episode 'Fragile' from season 5.

I'd say Salvation, if this were an option (which I don't think it is).

As for Michael's Lex: Onyx would be good, or Descent. Both excellent episodes for him, although there were parts of Onyx that I thought were over-the-top.

Why should Nolan see how Welling would do as a mentor?
Superman is someone that inspires and leads with a good nature. Tom's relationship and chemistry with a little girl in the episode I mentioned is a great example of this and shows a heroic side that isn't just fighting a super-powered badguy.

I feel that season four was over-the-top in itself, so I didn't pay much attention for that aspect with "Onyx"; but, yes, thinking it over, the episode was a bit OTT.

I actually think the whole "I am the villain of the story" speech was a bit drawn out, like the writers wanted to put that in just to make sure the fans were aware that Lex would become Superman's arch-enemy, lol.

True, but still, having Superman making mentor speeches just makes me think of Superman's speech towards Jason in Superman Returns.

The son becomes the father and the father becomes the son speech?
That's an odd choice to think of for a mentoring speech.

I'd have to echo Onyx, and I think Salvation works well too.

Well, seeing as how we never received a sequel, we don't know that Jason is truly Superman's son, so it could've only been a mentor speech :cwink:

I just think that an episode such as "Fragile" or something should be ahead of the pilot, or even "Salvation"(I'd prefer to use the pilot though; Nolan needs to see Welling's acting, not his ability to 'be' Superman). Superman has to make speeches, yes, but I just don't think any mentoring speeches will be in the first film.

Uh, if Jason is not Superman's son, who sneezed the Piano into Lex's goon?
Yeah, Jason is Superman's son. It's true, otherwise he couldn't have sneezed that piano into the goon.
Don't know why anyone would think Jason isn't his son. Who else could he be?
But this isn't the Superman Returns forum.

Look, Fragile? Maybe.
I think the pilot works well for this though.
At least, for acting.

No such episodes of SV exist.

;)

Seriously, Nolan's work is on a completely different level. I don't think there will be ANY aspects unique to SV that we will see in Nolan's approach to Superman.

As cool as Rosenbaum was at playing Lex as a jealous 'brother' figure to Clark in Smallville, the film Luthor will likely be based on the older self-made Billionaire Lexcorp Lex from the Suicide Slums (the John Byrne material).

Sweet episode choice.

It was a joke, man.

Sorry, :( Sometimes I'm not good at getting jokes.

Without :) behind them.

My apologies.
Hey, they could do worse with Lex in the new movie. They could keep him as the criminal mastermind of the Golden/Silver/Bronze age. :)

And if they do make a new Superman movie, I hope it's not going to have the John Bryne Superman.
Because who wants to see a Superman that at times the Golden Age Superman would point at him and laugh. :( And then beat him up.

I'm not very much accustomed to using smiley faces unless I'm tired of typing.

But, I honestly wonder what version of Lex Luthor Nolan would actually use. Both can be in typical Christopher Nolan fashion, imo, plus if Brainiac is the main villain and Luthor is only the minor one.
