way to generalize there. You know, in the real world, it is still possible through hard work and determination to dig yourself out of almost any distress caused by economics. Ofcourse to admit this, you would have to put aside a lot of the "there are victims everywhere attitude".Slipknot said:Ethiopia is one of the poorest nations in the world. Only the wealthy are able to leave the country to come to the U.S. unless they have some connection to someone with money who will bring them here. The Ethiopian women I spoke of that works with my mother also has had her life threatened multiple times. Her father was killed because he was a general in a the army when a civil war broke out. It doesn't change the fact that she is wealthy.
Cyclops said:Oh, my God! FREE ENGLISH LESSONS?!
Look at that, Slipknot! Lessons... for free!! Make an excuse as to why they shouldn't take advantage of them. Go on.
You're sure that they are totally free? I have actually asked how much a class was to learn English because I knew someone from China here that was going to a class to learn English. I asked him how much it cost... and he said about $300 for the course. Maybe he got screwed.Carter said:You haven't seen them. because you haven't looked obviously.

Same deal. To me anyway.
It's insensitive because he's making things harder
In Ethiopia? You are pretty much either born into wealthy or born into poverty. Yeah... maybe you could dig yourself out of poverty over there by the time you reach 60. I'm just saying in general... you don't see poor Ethiopians coming to the U.S. There isn't much of a middle class in Ethiopia.Man-Thing said:way to generalize there. Yeah... because I'm sure all those Spanish speaking people know how to search the net in English and have the access to do that?Carter said:Oh, god there are like 50 numbers and addresses in that first site.
How 'bout you take some initiative and call some of them like the site suggests.
Slipknot said:Yeah... because I'm sure all those Spanish speaking people know how to search the net in English and have the access to do that?
I don't think people here know about these places. I have never heard of any free classes that teaches English around here.
So are you saying these Spanish speaking people can't do anything? It sure sounds like it.Slipknot said:Yeah... because I'm sure all those Spanish speaking people know how to search the net in English and have the access to do that?![]()
Um, they don't let Mexicans into libraries, man.Carter said:Jesus, have you ever heard of the public library?
Free use of computers
Ugh, I love when I try to defend people and it's somehow turned back at me to make it seem like I think that I am somehow better than them or whatever it may be. I don't think that they can't do it. All I did was saying how people are. People were like this when they came over from Europe in the early 1900's. They came in here and stuck with their own people and spoke their own language. I'm going to have to say this again... it isn't a "can't do attitude."Wilhelm-Scream said:Well, as long as our planet is besieged by champions, no...BASTIONS of ignorance and a real "Can't-Do-It" attitude as Slipknot....worry not!
We'll be knee-deep in victimized, ignorant immigrants who'll be forever unable to even mouth the words necessary to begin to try and stand up for themselves against the greatest, slimiest corporate lawyers that money can buy.
Heh, I'm begining to think that Slipknot may actually be the owner of an orange grove.
