Zod save us from short sighted fans... Why assume that A. A Krypton show is a bad idea and that no one would find it interesting? Seems that as usual the hard core fanboys/fangirls can't fathom that there must be material produced from these properties that doesn't just appeal to someone that lives, eats and breathes comic book super heroes with a an intimate knowledge of their back stories and mythologies. An example of this would be how GOTHAM keeps chugging along, entertaining the masses while getting nothing but disdain from so many quarters of the geek world. Yet I actually know quite a few people with no in depth familiarity with Batman's mythology that enjoy the show a lot. When a character like Black Mask or Leslie Thompkins is used they don't have the same reaction a fan has. Nothing is too "on the nose" and they sure as hell could give a crap about deviation from canon or too much "wink, wink" (which I would ague is blown out of proportion by fanboy/fangirls online anyway). And B. Sure, SYFY has given us a lot of dreck... They have also given us some of the best science fiction shows of all time, some of which were well lauded hits and some of which were not supported by the fans who always claim that they want new and different quality programming but who never the less DON'T end up actually tuning in in the numbers required to continue producing such SFX and production intensive material. If we want to have programming that matches our wants and desires for Sci if and fantasy (which of course means it has to have a baseline of quality) then stuff like ALPHAS, FARSCAPE and the U.S. version of BEING HUMAN needs to be supported in the way a BATTLESTAR franchise was. I mean... seriously, a quality series about KRYPTON is more welcome to me than another schlock Beeteors Vs. Bearicanes crap they sink money into on a regular basis. And before someone says that somehow this idea is doomed to failure... You actually don't know that. You don't know how it's going to be cast, what the tones, general arcs or plots are going to be, nor do any of us know what the production values are going to be like.
Saying that this is all going to crash and burn , ect. seems to be another symptom of the judgmental modern genre fan, who make up their mind in totality about everything coming down the pike, sight unseen, rather than actually waiting to see the finished product or at least a more full view than a series announcement with out one iota of footage to make an assessment off. What's even more interesting is that we see the weeping and rending of clothing done for so many things that so many of the naysayers eventually embrace once they do actually see the product in it's final form. Ledger's Joker, Quicksilver in DAYS OF FUTURES PAST, Grant Gustin as Barry Allen and the costume used on the CW FLASH show... All things excoriated to one degree or another online in the lead up to their premiere and all things that were embraced by a good number of people many of whom were in the opposing camp in the preceding months leading up to actually seeing the finished product.
