So the trailer was apparently scrubbed from the internet. Guess it was a leak, after all.

Figures. WB has one DC-related thing in production that I'm actually interested in and it will probably never see the light of day.

There’s still no official word that Syfy has made a series order. But the fact that a trailer was cut (and apparently shown to industry types at “upfronts”) would seem to be a positive sign.

If it were a "positive sign" they would be in production on the first season.

The more I think about this show, the more it seems like a bad idea, even after seeing the trailer. This should have been an 8 episode miniseries.

Krypton is basically Gotham, I assume. Without Superman.

The trailer looks pretty good and I was highly skeptical about this from the start.

"I love superman, i dont give two #$# about his grandfather"

DT said it all.

Even Gotham has all of the classic Batman characters just younger and pre-costume. Krypton has...Krypton. No Kal-El, Kara, Zod, etc..

I'd rather have original characters than "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" prequel versions of major characters who are at the same time already way too much like their comic book counterparts and also assured to never be fully realized versions of them.

This was my initial reaction to the premise. However, it looks like an interesting show to me in its own right, separate from any connection to Man of Steel/Superman.

My thing is, when it comes to prequels, they have like no sense of retro era. Like everything looks like it did when Krypton was around during Superman's birth, the stuff should try to look a little more decades older.

It sort of makes sense that it looks similar to the Man of Steel era considering it's supposed to be a stagnating culture.

What would be cool is if they encounter some Thangarians.

However they could meet other characters in the DC universe. Like New Gods, Green Lanterns, Mongo, Starro, Brainiac's people, Doomsday. Mixy, and etc. Hell he could even meet Black Adam, he was thrown into the darkest region of space in one origin.

But you could say much the same thing about any character on any new series. :word:

I think the degree to which Krypton exploits its connection to the future Superman mythos will be - necessarily - minimal. I.e., it will succeed (or fail) as a more-or-less “original” sci-fi/fantasy drama.

The grandfather angle is completely unappealing. Following a young Jor-El would have been far more intriguing, and would give a natural end point they could lead to.
Similar to how Smallville always had that end goal of him finally putting on the suit.

They can drag it out as long as they needed, and then just have them get pregnant in the final season. Have an ongoing development of Jor-el studying the planet, then gradually discovering their doom. His struggles to convince the council, etc.
Earlier seasons can be all about Jor-el's early career, becoming an up and coming name in science, meeting Lara, etc.

SOOOO many incredible story opportunities, introducing Zod early, and play with his relationship with Jor-el, etc, already available. So much potential.

I've been a fan of Superman lore and mythology for years, but I couldn't give a s**t about Grampaw-El and Grampaw Zod's history and adventures in Krypton's past...

To be fair Tales of Krypton not involving Jor-El or Lara were a staple of the comics for decades.

Honestly haven't gotten into any shows on the Syfy channel (scaretactics might've been one?). With that being said, I was impressed by some of the initial shots in the trailer. Goyer being involved perhaps why some elements carried over from MoS.

I thought movie on Krypton would be fun back when it was being discussed years ago before notion of a DCU won over. This would lack the needed effects but seems like they're trying with what they can. That being said the story did seem to be a bit redundant from what could see on the trailer like oh we're gonna repeat the same thing just further back without destruction actually happening sort of thing. Seems to hold more promise after seeing the trailer than what I was expecting though.

DC just stays winning. Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Gotham, Lucifer, iZombie all renewed. Black Lightning, Titans, and Krypton ordered to series.

Shame Powerless turned out so lame.

The DC TV franchise, particularly Superman's, is getting stronger. Makes sense for Krypton to debut in 2018 considering it will be Superman's 80th anniversary. I wonder if Krypton takes place in the Man of Steel movie continuity.
