You Want Proof That Rap Is Dead?

No one is trying to change anyone elses opinion.

It's not dead, it'll just revive itself in a new form in another couple years. Every genre does it...no musical genre has died, not even celtic music.

Obviously when people say a form of music has "died" they don't mean that it literally doesn't exist. They mean it has either lacked a lot of quality lately, or has fallen out of popularity.

Why are we basing rap's quality on some weird/random Atlanta school freestyle battle, filmed in very poor quality by a crappy Daily news show?

When songs that have barely-legible guys talking over beats become "the illest" and words and phrases had to be entirely made up for songs to be completed, you know the genre has fallen.

For example: Knuck If You Buck, Soulja Boy, Crank Dat Batman.

Sure, I admit, there are some pretty good artists out there still, but they're barely making headlines for the previously mentioned idiots.

Wait this video proves hip-hop is dead and the music industry is looking for this kind of "talent"? Aren't these just a few kids messing around in video production or something. Um no rap isn't dead, it's certainly not as good and original as it used to be, but it's not dead.

It's dead. These types of guys are in the industry. Do you even listen to rap? I can barely listen to any of it anymore... The few artists I can listen to get no respect (Spider Loc, Lupe Fiasco [who's rising, but still not as popular as I think he should be], and the old-school guys).

Yes, rap is dead.

Lupe Fiasco...lol...I hear nothing but bad about him.

Kick, push...seriously.

I skate, and I can tell you what skaters think of Lupe Fiasco.

And Pharell.

Do all skaters share one opinion of music? do you speak for ALL of them?

Well I would gather that a good number of the Hype could really care less about the rap genre (myself included, and as a black man that should be a hint to some people) and no amount of rap battles will change that. Music is one of the most uniting and divisive forces out there.

So you as a black man think that you being black should be hint toward people of other races that liking rap music is something they should not be doing? That is one of the most asinine reasonings I have heard in quite awhile.

Music IS something that (some) people can get passionate about. Nothing wrong with that.

Maybe there is....there are other things in this world, more important things that could use some attention and passion.

I didn't say anything is spoken badly of Lupe, just that he doesn't get the amount of respect he deserves.

You skate, but what are you doing that is so much better than Lupe or even Pharell? Those guys are doing positive things for skaters... and you decide to talk trash about them.

Of course there is... but what is this thread about? C'mon man... you know better than that. Lol, I really don't even know why you come into these music threads.

Thank you for telling me what music I am and am not allowed to enjoy. I wasn't clear on it before, so thanks.

Trash? Positive things?

All of these are opinionated concepts.

What they think is good for skating, or cooking, or drugs or etc. is opinionated.

Just like dropping food from helicopters on 3rd world countries...how many of those pilots do you think actually get down on the ground and see the effects of their causes?

This thread is getting into a whole other realm.

So, exposing skating to audiences who might not otherwise give a damn about skating is not a positive thing?

Your comparison is really out of the blue and has zero relevance to anything being discussed, so if anybody has derailed this thread... let's blame you.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: on the Hype!, it's more important to prove the other guy wrong than to prove yourself right.

I've got a novel idea...
I skate, and I can tell you what skaters think of Lupe Fiasco.

And Pharell.
Tell us what skaters think of Lupe and Pharrell.

How hard was that? :whatever:

If it's out of the blue, then I am either really crazy or some people can't think outside of the box.

And exposure isn't always a good thing.

You support Ryan Sheckler and his show about finding a chill girl, don't you?

Your stance on the matter lacks any real foundation. You're a third party with no intimate knowledge on the matter...no offense, and I doubt any was taken.

You, like anyone else on here lacks respect for people who don't agree with you and can't keep it civil.

You turn to insults and witty critcsms.

But oh, who cares...it's just the internet.

Your turn.

As you are a third party as well. You didn't really say anything at all in that post. Its not a lack of respect... its me just plainly saying that you aren't really making any sense.

Of course there is... but what is this thread about? C'mon man... you know better than that. Lol, I really don't even know why you come into these music threads.

I don't know myself....but I enjoy it in some odd way

What's your point Manic?
You said skaters don't like Lupe Fiasco, but you never specifically said why. On top of that, people started arguing with you without getting the specifics. It's like you barely started to say something negative about Lupe Fiasco, and people jumped on you before you actually said why you said something negative.

Basically, I want fleshed out reasons before I pick a side in this argument. What do skaters say about Lupe and Pharrell? Then I'll tell you if I have an opinion on their opinions.

My use of the term 3rd party must be different, and more extreme, than yours.

I am The Spawn.

Since 2002, EVERYONE has jumped on me.

It's what I do.

I did that on purpose...I can talk **** without talking.

It's my super power.
