After that would be Kubrick, Nolan, David Fincher, maybe Aronofsky, Kurosawa and I think The Coens...

Or maybe Tarkovsky. Or Cuaron. Man, this is harder than I thought.

I make a list of my top 5
Scorsese - Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Wolf of Wall Street
Spielberg- Raiders of The Lost Ark, Schindler's List, Jurassic Park or Jaws
Nolan- The Dark Knight, Inception, Memento
Kubrick- A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, 2001 A Space Odyssey
Tarantino- Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Inglorious B******* or Django Unchained

David Lynch - Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks pilot

King Ridley:

Alien. Blade Runner. Kingdom of Heaven: DC

John McTiernan:

Die Hard, Die Hard 3, Predator.

James Cameron pre-castration.

The Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2.

I can't name people like Ridley Scott, Francis Ford Coppola, Tim Burton, The Wachowskis and other, because I love less than 3 movies from them.

Paul Verhoeven: Robocop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct.
James Cameron: The Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
David Lynch: Inland Empire, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway.

This is actually somewhat hard for me to choose.

But I'd be the last to deny Spielberg on his birthday.

My personal 3 favorites?: ET, Jurassic Park and Jaws. I'll go to bat for A.I. though.

Kubrick: 2001 A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Paths of Glory.

Carpenter: The Thing, Halloween, Escape from New York

Sidenote, Aronofsky is never one that I ever really think about when thinking about my favorite directors but then one day I noticed that I own all of his movies on DVD. It was like "Oh, I guess I really like this guy."

I'd be remiss to not mention Cronenberg and Guillermo del Toro.

Have you seen Fire Walk With Me?

Not to completion. Saw probably the first 40 minutes awhile back, but never got around to finishing. Wasn't really feeling it, but that's probably just because it took them awhile to get into Laura's story. Even if I end up loving it, though, I'll probably still rank the pilot higher. I f***ing love that thing.

Frankly I'm just excited that we are getting 17 hours of new Lynch directed material this year.

Martin Scorcese: The Departed
Christopher Nolan: The Dark Knight
Sam Mendes: American Beauty

My fave director of all time -

Hitchcock

Vertigo

Psycho

The Birds

Carpenter

The Thing

Halloween

Starman

Spielberg (just edges it over Burton)

E.T.

Jaws

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

James Cameron - Avatar, Terminator 2, Aliens

Christopher Nolan - TDKR, The Prestige, Batman Begins

Guilermo Del Toro - Hellboy, Hellboy II, Pan's Labyrinth

Honorable mentions:

George Miller - The Road Warrior, Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max

Blithering Idiot - Watchmen, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

John Carpenter - The Thing, At the Mouth of Madness, Big Trouble in Little China

Clint Eastwood - Unforgiven
