Wow, each one of those was easily the worst of their three films.

Iron Man 3 is better than Iron Man 2 imo... but that's so 2013's argument

The Dark Knight Rises.

Although it would have been so much better if they called it Die Dark Knight Die.

Iron Man 3 followed by The Dark Knight Rises and Spider-Man 3.

oh, that's an easy one. IM3, the only good threequel in this poll

It's controversial and I'll get hate for it, but out of the options I went with Spider-Man 3. It has flaws, it's not nearly as amazing as SM1 or SM2, but to me, the good > the bad in that film. I'd say it's maybe a 7/10 for me (the other two being 9 and 10) and I'd put it just slightly over TDKR and IM3, both movies I also like.

Only one of these movies made the biggest cheers and applause line in the franchise a man sitting in a chair in an Italian cafe.

For THAT to be the moment that got audiences super excited in a summer superhero action blockbuster spectacle? Now, that is quality filmmaking right there.

that moment excited people??
definitely hadn't heard that..

Yeah that's a first for me too. Not that that resolution bothered me any, but there wasn't anybody super stoked for that little bit when I left the theater.

It's the first time I hear of people getting excited for that scene as well. I certainly didn't experience it in the theaters and to the contrary I've rather seen tons of complaints about Batman quitting not once, but twice in the movie. Not that I was that bothered myself, although I'm not a huge Batman fan from my comics days either.

DaCrowe is not a lone, the whole ending sequence to Nolan's trilogy was pure joy.

I enjoyed the ending to TDKR as well. But it doesn't outweigh all the other problems for me.

Fanboys complaining online about "Batman never quits, he goes on forever" is different from most people. That is a specific segment of the audience. I suppose I cannot point to proof, but I know that when I saw that film three times with crowded audiences, every time there were cheers and applause. The first time I saw it, I wanted to clap.

People can be revisionist all they want, but the film had something around 86% positive reviews on RT and strong WOM that carried it over a billion. Audiences and critics liked it (not that that has to affect your personal opinion). And the ending was a clear crowd pleaser simply by showing its hero not punching someone or standing watchfully over the city in the night, nor did it need any massive amounts of CGI. It was simply a character surprising a number of people with a feel-good ending by sitting in a chair. Nolan knows how to drop a mic, just like in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Inception before this.

okay, guess I could see that
and I'm not trying to revise history, I just didn't experience that, quite possibly because I saw it in a nearly empty theater

I'm glad that Batman got his happy ending, which is obviously different than most comics but I don't remember anyone cheering or clapping at the end either.

Right there with you buddy. SM3 is easily my favourite on the list.

I've tried to like TDKR. I really have. It's not the failure a lot of these other ones are, but it does have its share of problems.

TDKR is the only good threequel on this list, which makes sense to me, as TDKT is the only great or even good CBM trilogy, unless X-Men Apocalypse delivers.

And yes, I left out Captain America on purpose.

Heh. Agreed on The First Avenger. But who knows? Civil War might just be the best third film overall? At least if the hype is to be believed.

Oh, I'm confident that CW will end up being the best CBM threequel, especially among fanboys.

Blade, Spider-Man and X-Men series all have poor 3rdquels.

Iron Man is at least mid tier.

I know if CW is as good as some critics are prognosticating, I think the conversation probably will be had that it can be in that discussion of the great/good CBM trilogies.

Hard for me to look at MCU threequels as true threequels with all the crossovers and tie-ins inbetween. Iron Man espeically doesn't feel like a trilogy. Iron Man 3 is the best film on this list, but not the best threequel imo.

Easily The Dark Knight Rises, but I do have high hopes for Apocalypse.
