What 10 movies would you recommend to someone who has never watched a movie in their life? Consider genre, year, awards, performances, length, etc. One rule: NO listing an entire trilogy (or even more than one film) in the same spot.

1. Star Wars
2. The Dark Knight
3. Rocky
4. One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest
5. Saving Private Ryan
6. Psycho
7. Caddyshack
8. LOTR Return of the King
9. The Wizard of Oz
10.Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

These are the first ten movies that came into my head. I know if I thought longer some of them would change, but I think this is a decent list to start with.

Goodfellas
Terminator 2
Predator
The Thing
The French Connection
Saving Private Ryan
X-Men 2
Scarface
Batman Begins
Full Metal Jacket

Forgot to give my list:

Jaws
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Back to the Future
Jurassic Park
The Dark Knight
Goodfellas
Die Hard
Halloween
The Shawshank Redemption
The Godfather

Citizen Kane
Breathless
Jaws
The General
Nashville
La Dolce Vita
The Seventh Seal
The Godfather
Aguirre, The Wrath of God
Birth of a Nation

^ Old school aren't ya? I'll update with my list later.

I just think those are like, the bare minimum where people should start if they've never seen a movie before. Stuff like Die Hard, The Dark Knight, etc. can come later.

Personally, I include Die Hard as an essential 10 film because it is IMO the greatest pure action film ever made. It epitomizes the genre. But I definitely see what you're saying.

Tough list to come up with, but these come to mind:

1. The Godfather
2. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
3. Gone with the Wind
4. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
5. Lawrence of Arabia
6. Saving Private Ryan
7. The Wizard of Oz
8. Schindler's List
9. Raiders of the Lost Ark
10. It's a Wonderful Life
