After watching the AFI's 10 Top 10 lists last night, I couldn't help but think what my fellow Hypesters would have picked. Naturally, we would have different genres, so here goes. Below is a list of film genres with brief criteria for each. PM me your pick for the best film in each group. If the film you are submitting has more than one incarnation, please specify. You may only submit one film per genre, and you may not submit the same film for more than one. After 2 weeks, I will tabulate the votes and post the 10 top 10 lists. If you have any questions, post them here.
So, here are the genres of films...
1. Comic/Cartoon Adaptations
If you surf these boards and need this one explained, get out.
2. Action
These are the films with more guns than dialogue, a high body count, and usually enough foul language to make sailors blush. And all without monsters or robots.
3. Sports
Simple enough. The only real qualification I'm giving here is that the main character be an athlete or coach, and there must be at least three sporting events in the film. Jerry Maguire does not count. Films about gladiators don't go here either, more on them later.
4. Sci-Fi
Another genre that explains itself, but for the record, I count Alien as a horror film.
5. Horror
The ones that make you sleep with the light on.
6. Fantasy
These would be films dealing with, well, you should all understand this one as well. NOTE: The Lord of the Rings trilogy counts as one film.
7. Comedy
If the movie caused a beverage to leave your body via your nostrils, it goes here. As much as I would love to exclude the romantic comedies, I have to be fair and allow them. Satires go here as well, i.e Army of Darkness, Hot Fuzz, and the like.
8. Gangster
I only hope that people will vote for a movie other than Scarface
9. Western
A simple genre, but please try to remember the classics.
10. Drama
This is the catch all. These are the films that just don't fit the other groups, but still made you feel you got your money's worth when you left the theatre. NOTE: This is where the gladiator films can go.
