A lot of people seem to hate the film precisely because they can't stand cutesy child characters like Fievel. Another argument I've heard a lot is "those aren't cats, they're bears/wolverines/wolves! WTF were you high on Bluth!?" Also I hear Tony's character get made fun of a lot and described as if he came from Newsies (which isn't even a film I've seen or hate). I've also heard people say the background artwork sucks and the animation is jittery and complain that it's too dark and that the music is unmemorable and that there are more bad characters than good ones and that once Fievel threw his hat out onto the ship's deck nobody could ever feel bad for him ever again, etc etc etc. I think that covers most of the ill-thought complaints I've heard.

Here I was thinking that it was somehow offensive to immigrants or some crap like that, which (while kinda dumb) is understandable, but apparently we've descended far, far past that level of "thought".

Well what are you looking for.

I was going to recommend Before Sunrise but then I scanned the thread again -- and it's in your Top 10 films. Great film -- one that deserves a Criterion release.

Before Sunset is good, but it's not as memorable or lyrical like the first one.

I've got the opposite feeling on this. When I watched Before Sunrise I thought it was a fantastic movie and while it had flaws I loved it. But then I watched Before Sunset and Before Sunrise became more of a set up. It might sound harsh but Before Sunset took a hugely ambitious idea and became a brilliant film.

Great choice.

People definitely need to watch Amadeus. I've recommended to two people and while they were both put off by the subject matter and length (which I was as well) they were very enthusiastic about it. It's a nearly perfect film with one of the all-time great performances.
