A rant, observation, awareness - hell, do what you want with this ****er.

Got an email stating my resume caught said employers eye, etc, etc.

Well. . I had to drive to Atlanta, 2.5 hours away, for the interview. ANYONE looking for a job would go to this:

Sports Marketing
$30,000 + commission
Health
Retirement

So I go.

Seems fishy, because I interview with another person. Then when the woman tells the other guy to leave, so we can have a one on one. She speaks highly of the job, tells me all the great things about it, whatever.

I was sold.

So today I get my second interview from the big guy, via phone conference. Roll Ben Affleck, from Boiler room and Micheal Douglas, from Wallstreet, into one person - and that was this guy.

Interview goes well, until the end. He asked me to meet with a Prinicpal of a local high school, Monday, to talk about buying said sports product. His words, "this will be your test run."

I have not been trained, I do not understand the paperwork, and I don't know **** about the company, and he wants to give me a test run.

I get home and tell google to search this **** out.

Mr. Google found this:
http://www.advantagepromo.net/
http://www.ripoffreport.com/searchr...=&q6=&q3=&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search!

Enjoy, feed back, tear some **** up.

Man. Anything that reads "marketing" is most likely a scam.

Sorry to hear about the fishiness and the utterly wasted time but...you got a random email about this?

I dunno about you, but my Gmail spam filter has been doing a crap job as of late. Been getting 5 spam emails a day about random discounts or jobs or how to lengthen my (hypothetical) manhood.

Even if you're hurting for a job, it's best to network without people you know, or at least friends of friends. At least you weren't pulled into this too far before you caught on.

Oh and I understand how to read into a scam.

But when they offer a salary, instead of straight commission - and the explanation of this job, it honestly sounded like a great sales job.

Monster sent it to me.

Wow, that totally sucks. Very unfortunate. :csad:

:lmao: the changed title.

Don't feel too bad, Stormy. A high school friend of mine actually talked me into a pyramid scheme waaay back.

I don't talk with him anymore. And yeah, gotten much more cynical since then.

You sure it was from Monster? Those phishing guys are getting pretty good at replicating other company's emails. I actually had to do a double take once, and go, "Waaaait a minute..."

Not sure.

Email read:

Saw your resume on Monster.

That was the subject title? Very spamtastic. They should have at least included the job title in there or...something more concrete. Check the reply address, that's usually the first sign of fakery.

Live and learn, though.

You put your resume on Monster and they said that is where they found it?

I thought so, as well. Did my homework, etc, etc.

Reply address checked out.
Email seemed written not copy and pasted.
Then a second email came, different title and clearly written.

So you replied to the first email? It could have been forwarded to an actual person, after the automated first round of spam.

No.

I did nothing, from the first email. Because I was still research as best I could, before I called them to set up the interview.

The second one came a day later, and like I said, seem more legit.

I remember when I first got out of school going on a couple interviews for basically door-to-door salesmen jobs, that were advertised as marketing/advertising positions.

I even forwarded it to three people, and they all said "seems decent, check it out."

It really did not stink of spam/scam. I just assumed - which is m fault - that it meant exactly what it said.

Actually, now that I think about it, the job is listed as Sports Account Representative, or something.

I'm finding this damn email.

:funny: All righty then.

It doesn't seem like a total ripoff right from the start, you probably have to start working with them before they start taking real advantage of you. (Wasted time notwithstanding.)

So the first email was related to the second? Or are you just assuming so?

Assuming so.

And as for wasted time, go read those rants on the website listed. One guy actually worked a full week to be told "we don't have a salary budgeted for you."

So, are we going to burn this place down on Monday or what?
