Man threatens to eat two police officers in Miami

Miami police have warned of a potent new mind-altering drug called "Cloud Nine," after a snarling homeless man threatened to eat two officers a week after a grisly face-gnawing attack.

The ecstasy-like drug is part of a new line of over-the-counter "bath salts" implicated in an attack last week in which a growling naked man chewed off most of a homeless man's face before being shot dead by police.

The police department is now warning officers to be extremely cautious around disorderly homeless men and telling the public to call police immediately if they see anyone showing signs of being on the new drug.

In the latest incident, police took Brandon De Leon into custody after he entered a restaurant shouting obscenities and initially resisted arrest.

On the way to the station he slammed his head against the plexiglass barrier in the patrol car, shouting to the officers: "I'm going to eat you!"

Later, the 21-year-old growled and grunted like an animal, and tried to bite an officer's hand, police said, prompting them to fit him with a bite mask and leg restraints.

In addition to the Cloud Nine, police also believe De Leon finished off a bottle of rum and was working on a beverage called Four Loko, which combines alcohol and caffeine. He tested positive for marijuana, Xanax and alcohol.

The case "bears resemblance to an incident that occurred in the city of Miami last week, when a male ate another man's face," a police memo to officers warned.

"Please be careful when dealing with the homeless population during your patrols."

Last week a nude assailant almost killed another man by trying to bite his face off, in what some media reports have dubbed the "zombie" attack. The aggressor, Rudy Eugene, 31, was shot dead by police.

The homeless victim, who also was naked during the attack, remains hospitalized and fighting for his life.

Television footage and news photos have shown the two men sprawled on the sidewalk side by side in broad daylight, with the victim barely conscious and covered in blood.

Police have suggested Eugene was under the influence of "bath salts", a synthetic stimulant usually sold in shops selling drug paraphanelia which produces intense hallucinations and sparks erratic, violent behavior.

Cloud Nine is "addictive and dangerous," the memo said, part of a "disturbing trend" in which new drugs are sold in the guise of household products.

The drug, sold as "Ivory Wave" or "Cloud Nine," comes in harmless-looking packets, police said, adding that it is illegal in Britain and Australia.

Eugene's girlfriend, who asked not to be identified, told The Miami Herald that the frenzied attacker bore no resemblance to the man she was dating, and said he might have unwittingly been under the influence of drugs.

"The only other explanation was supernatural -- that someone put a voodoo curse on him," the woman told the daily of Eugene, who is of Haitian descent.

Latest 'zombie' eating attack: Man under the influence gets naked, bites off chunk of man's arm

PALMETTO, Fla. - The latest in a string of &#8220;zombie&#8221; like attacks happened in a Manatee County home Wednesday night after a man under the influence went into a fit of rage and bit a piece of someone&#8217;s arm off during a visit with his children.
Much like the Miami face-eating attack, 26-year-old Charles Baker got naked, ate human flesh and wouldn&#8217;t go down without a fight, according to a Manatee County Sheriff&#8217;s Office report.

Authorities say Baker went to his girlfriend&#8217;s home on 25th St in Palmetto to visit his kids at 10:15 p.m. They say he was high on an unknown substance when he knocked on the door, then barged in, began yelling and taking off his clothes.

He was screaming and wouldn&#8217;t calm down, then began throwing furniture around the home.

Jeffery Blake, who lives in the home, attempted to restrain Baker, but the suspect bit him, taking a chunk of his flesh from his bicep.

Blake, 48, was able to get Baker to the ground and kept him there until two deputies arrived.

When law enforcement came inside, Blake released Baker. Baker got up, but would not respond to deputies orders.

The suspect instead faced the deputies, tensing his body, clenching his fists and screaming. Baker, still naked, acted like he was going to rush the deputies, according to the report.

Deputy Wildt deployed his an electronic control device after giving a verbal warning.

Baker fell to the ground, and then tried to get back up, so Deputy Wildt deployed the device again. Baker pulled the probes out, so deputy Blake deployed his electric shock device.

Those probes were also pulled out, and Deputy Wildt deployed a second cartridge.

By this time, several other deputies had arrived on scene and were able to hold him down and handcuff him.

Baker was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for evaluation before being transported to the jail.

Naked man gnaws on woman's head

A naked, bloody man broke into a home, jumped from a two-story window, tackled a passerby and chewed on her head while "screaming like an animal."

The gory scene unfolded Friday night in Hawley, Pa., 40 miles east of Scranton, where 20-year-old Richard Cimino Jr. allegedly went ballistic on a woman and two officers, Patch reported.

At about 5 a.m., Cimino reportedly drove his car off the road behind some houses in the small town. He stripped off his clothes, then tried and failed to break into a nearby home. He was told to leave, so he fled up the street and broke into another home. This one was vacant. He allegedly jumped from a second-story window.

State Trooper David Aulisio told Patch that Cimino "severely injured his arms and extremities" from the fall, but kept going.

Bleeding heavily, he found two women on the street and tackled one of them. Patch reported that he covered her in his blood. Then he began to "gnaw at [her] head, screaming like an animal," Aulisio said.

The women escaped and called police, who found Cimino lying on the road, severely injured and displaying "delusional behavior." Despite the injuries and a jolt from a Taser, Cimino managed to punch an officer in the face before he was arrested.

It's yet unclear whether Cimino was on drugs during the incident, and Pennsylvania police told The Huffington Post today that he's still in the hospital and has yet to be processed. He'll face plenty of charges, including two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, indecent exposure and criminal mischief, plus three counts of burglary and one count each of criminal trespass and defiant trespassing, according to The Times-Tribune.
