Mystery/Thriller ´The Day Of The Jackal' (Sky/Peacock)

A ruthless assassin, the Jackal, (Eddie Redmayne) makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.

Anytime a new show pops up on Peacock, I’m always nervous about its future but Redmayne and Lynch have some star power so hopefully this one will last if it’s good. It certainly looks intense and much better than the bland remake they did in the 90s with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere.

Finally caught up with the 5 episodes really loving it, though at times it does feel like its a really expensive James Bond audition reel for Eddie Redmayne (and it kind of works, particularly in episode 3), if I have 1 nitpick I'd say they could tone it down with the 'needle drops'

Well, if the Broccolis are to be believed, they are looking for a Bond in his 30s, which would put Redmayne out of the running. Though after watching this, I could certainly see him in the role. I’d rather he didn’t though and just kept on with 5 seasons of this show because it’s awesome. I find myself rooting for the Jackal despite the fact that he’s a horrible person, just because he’s such a skilled assassin and because Redmayne is so captivating in the role. Lashana Lynch is equally good and I’m glad they didn’t make her character some virtuous knight; some of the stuff she does has really bad consequences and so it keeps the heroes of the show from being too squeaky clean.

Watched the first five episodes and it just gets better and better as it goes on. I guess the rest of the season will be week to week. I hope that weird release schedule doesn’t hurt viewership because I need multiple seasons of this show.

Are there multiple seasons planned? I was under the impression it was a limited series, however after episode 4, I could see them planting seeds for a potential S2

Watched the second episode, still fantastic! Wish I had time to binge this.

I’m not sure! I guess we’ll see. If the Jackal dies in episode 10 then I guess it’s limited unless they want to continue on with another assassin or do a prequel season.

I would imagine Redmane is expensive. Might not have the monies to go too far. :(

They way they keep showing his entire family, tells me something is going to happen to them , if I have to guess, something goes wrong with his assigment and fails and the company that hired him decides to take it out on his family, as they already started by (I forget her name) they are not to be messed around with

Just finished the third episode and holy crap, this show is getting better with each new episode. I'd love to see it last more than one season.:D

I understand her motivation, but my word Bianca is incredibly unlikeable

Awesome after the end of episode 7, which more or less wrapped up the book, they went in another direction, so I figured there was a strong possibillty we were set to get a 2nd season.

So glad it got renewed! Haven’t seen past episode 5 yet but I’ll get on that today!
