🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

That is absolutely dumb! What are they doing over there? Maybe Xi or Kim Jong can be the next leader?
Should at least be boycotted or sparsely attended.

Elon Musk has put Vladimir Putin back on Twitter.

Elon Musk’s social media site lifts restrictions on Kremlin-linked tweets

At the same time purported leaked classified U.S. documents about Ukraine and others are surfacing on rightwing websites Twitter, Telegram, and 4chan.

This is reminding me of the time before the 2016 election while Russia was working to get Trump in the White House.

I certainly hope Sweden will soon follow, too.:)

When Sweden joins NATO gets (essentially) an unsinkable aircraft carrier right in the middle of the Baltic Sea in the form of the Island of Gotland.

I wonder if President Putin's supporters have won so much that they're tired of winning yet. :hmm:

I'm amazed no one has put a bullet in Putin's head yet, or that he hasn't fallen out of a window. :p

These are major permanent strategic losses for Russia. Putin is terrible at this.

I strongly suspect that his (Putin's) current course of action was inspired by a combination of incompetence on the part of the Trump administration and an associated perception that it was catastrophically weakening NATO. Possibly aided by things like the passing of the torch in Germany from Merkel to Scholz. On it's face the odds must have looked pretty good...

Then Trump lost a 2nd term.
And Sholz turned out to be competent.
And Biden appointed a competent State Department.
And then the comedian turned President turned out to actually be a fighter.
And NATO turned out to be not quite so fragmented and toothless after all.
And...etc. etc. etc.

Bottom line in my opinion is that Russia lost this war as soon as they failed to take Kyiv in the first 3 days. Then they Really lost this war when it re-energized NATO. Then they Really REALLY lost this war when it drove historically neutral nations into alignment and membership with NATO.

When the history of this time is written it will not surprise me if the "Special Military Operation" going on in Ukraine right now is referred to as "Putin's ****-up"

Putin's mess-up?

I don't think History books will be kind to Putin, no, if he loses Ukraine. You can't be responsible for that many deaths with no result for the motherland and be praised. I'd love to see him rot in prison, but I think his end will come with a bullet or a long fall from a high building.

Pro-Russia propagandist unmasked as New Jersey tropical fish seller
To her devoted followers, “Donbas Devushka” – or Donbas Girl – is a Russian Jew from the occupied Ukrainian city of Luhansk, who has faithfully broadcast Kremlin propaganda for months.

But in reality, she is Sarah Bils, a 37-year-old divorcee from New Jersey and a US Navy veteran who served as an aviation electronics technician at Whitby Island in Washington State.

Donbas Devushka emerged after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February last year.

She built up a sizeable social media following on Twitter, Telegram and YouTube, emerging as the face of Russian propaganda, raising money and selling merchandise for the Russian cause.

WSJ News Exclusive | Social-Media Account Overseen by Former Navy Noncommissioned Officer Helped Spread Secrets
A social-media account overseen by a former U.S. Navy noncommissioned officer—a prominent online voice supporting Russia’s war on Ukraine—played a key role in the spread of intelligence documents allegedly leaked by Airman First Class Jack Teixeira, reposting files from obscure online chat rooms.

The things people do for attention, yikes.
