🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

I have a story to share with you guys that I once heard from a documentary. It concerns Albert Einstein.

Back in 1914, he thought that the new war was a stupid idea. He circulated an Anti-War petition. Being naive, he thought this could help. He went around and asked people to sign his anti war petition... He got three signatures. Three !

Germans at the time all thought that the war was a great idea.

They were wrong.

Back in 1913, Germany was the world's most advanced country philosophy, technologically, and scientifically. The theory of quantum mechanics, one of our greatest achievement as a species, was being developed in Germany. Heidelberg was on par with Harvard and Oxford.

That is no longer so. They lost 6 million lives in the two world war (disproportionately young people), much of their lands and architectural heritage, and many of their best scientists and thinkers went to the USSR and the USA.

They never recovered from the world wars. They should have gone for peace, somehow, in 1914 (and 1939).

Just goes to show sanctions don't mean crap. :(

I think those warships are just for show.

But the US should end its sanctions on and occupation of Cuba.

1959 was a long time ago, move on.

I was listening to a discussion, yesterday and it was pointed out that India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia aren't refusing to obey America because they love Russia and China, as Western media argues.

The way it should be interpreted is that they want a multipolar world because that's their best path to development. Countries like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and India don't want to be on one side or other other, they want to be their own independent centers of capital accumulation.

I've been thinking the same thing. If Russia can withstand the combined might of 30 Western countries and come out stronger, as it has, that will be a debilitating blow to 500 years of colonialism and White supremacy. The converse is true if Biden succeeds in his goal of taking over Russia, that would take the world back to the year 1900.

Putin Is Running Out of Time to Achieve Breakthrough in Ukraine

  • Russia made limited progress with Ukraine short on weapons
  • Ukraine halts Russian attack as billions in arms start flowing
I dont think anybody expected Russia to be really this bad, least of all Putin.
They have all the advantages and still Ukraine manages to hold on, even when the weapons etc from the West are stuck in political nonsense.

Its dragging out this war more than it should be while every day Russia is getting more and more a ticking timebomb in terms of their economy etc.
No Propaganda can mask that and i dont know how long Putin thinks he can delude himself on this.
The Rumblings again get louder that people inside of Russia are not happy with how things go and how much they are cut off from the rest of the world thanks to a war they dont even want.

Russia is not cut off from "the world", just the West+vassals, which is maybe 12.5% of the world population, and they're fully aware that the West wants to conquer Russia, deplete its population and culture, and take over it's natural resources.

Russia has full diplomatic, cultural, and economic relations with China, India, the Muslim world, Africa, and Latin America.

Right now their economy is booming, but the longer the war goes on, the worse for Europe. It's not clear if Germany, for example, will ever recover from this war.

To quote one of the most powerful politicians in Germany, Annalena Baerbock, Russia can do well when Putin shows a 360 degree change in his policies.

Buying into their own hype, it's what superpowers are good at. The stench of desperation has been hanging over Russia for a while now. That said, don't drop your guard.

I'm just thoroughly impressed with how well the Ukrainians have been doing so far. Let's hope there is no next time, but if there is, that the west doesn't drag its feet again, this kind of support makes all the difference. Maybe the Russians having a rough time themselves is going to help end this in a way that's not...terrible for everybody. You never know.

Ideally Russia gets nothing and pays for everything to be rebuild. Fat chance on the latter, fingers crossed for at least the former, and I'll just keep donating money

It is easy to understand this kind of baravdo -- Americans have been told (incorrectly) that Putin is responsible for Trump winning in 2016, and right now, other people (irrelevant Ukrainians) are doing the dying, and the high inflation from this war is predominantly impacting deplorables, ireedemables, young people, and minorities.

This will change if our sons and daughters are out dying in Ukraine, Gaza, and Taiwan so that the military contractors can get rich, or if God forbid a nuke drops on us.

Its about making your shadow bigger than you really are.
Russia were Pros for a long time and as you can see, their propaganda nonsense is still getting to gullible people.
But for the most part Russia made a fatal mistake with their attack on the Ukraine.
It exposed that what is behind the shadow...and that is not as big and dangerous, no matter who good their propaganda is.
For that, too much was revealed of Russias failure.

How this all ends, who knows at this stage.
I assume Russia will get the Minimum they set out to get, then there will be talks of peace.
At the moment its still a War of Endurance.

Next time they want to start something and use the words “special military operation” to
describe their plans, Russians will know that could mean a multi-year conflict.
