They’ve got an unnecessary enemy on their border now that they know they can’t go and invade again in future years without risking everything. All the big talk fighting every other developed nation is not going to look very realistic when they are facing such losses against one smaller neighbour.

So many Russians had relatives and relationships across the border that if the iron grip on the media ever starts weakening, people might start waking up to what’s been going on and get pretty angry. It’s good to finally start hearing at least some reports of Putin dissent at least.

All the election interference, assassinations, hacking/bots/ransomware and overall bullying is why so many nations have been helping Ukraine beyond just opposing the Russian Invasion.

Putin has spent over two decades creating enemies and thought the rest of the world would continue to placate his trifling ass. Ukraine provided the perfect opportunity to wreck Putin's ambitions and embarrass him.

Here's the thing, they may be slightly more entrenched. But there is a rather big catch. If Ukraine can get their fancy schmancy new HIMARs in range of the bridge that connects Crimea to Russia, well. Russia hasn't had the best of luck with aquatic crossings this year.

For the younger and slightly less brainwashed Russians, it must be strange to see all these western companies leave their shores for what they were told would be a 2-day operation and here we are getting closer to the end of the year and they are actually losing ground fast. The propaganda machine can keep changing its story every few days but at some point it's going to get hard to believe.
