🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

Putin has to know going into Ukraine was a mistake. A very expensive one. :(
It was supposed to be over in a few days and has turned into the biggest mistake of his life.

Big time. I can't imagine he expected over 100,000 dead. Explain that to the Russian people. :(

Not sure that part bothers him too much. More the loss of reputation, legacy, resources, power, military strength, personal security etc.

Lol, right? I wish he had just kept going.
A prolonged fight would have been better for Ukraine, BUT remember, there were no "good guys" in this fight. An overthrow of Putin with Prigozhin as his replacement isn't a win.

Things are so freaking weird in Russia that it tends to go over our head that there was a guy who took over a military base, marched on the capital, and a deal was cut with him to serve no prison time. On the other hand, a woman was found to be carrying some hash oil and the only way she got out of prison, after spending months and months there, was to have a prisoner swap to free a convicted arms dealer who was responsible for the deaths of thousands. Try wrapping your head around that one......

It’s full corruption and absolutely no regard for the lives of civilians. Anything goes once that mindset is adopted along with the ability to enforce what they want.

Putin is just trying to save face, lol.

I thought Putin wasn't going to charge anyone for the coup, or maybe that was just words, too.

I mean, they aren't going after Wagner itself, which I am beginning to suspect he gave to Lukashenko so that he wouldn't have to prop him up as much anymore, and focus more on Ukraine.

Now, for the people in the Ministry of Defense who gave Prigozhin the confidence he could march into Moscow unimpeded? Oh, they are getting purged. Right out the window.

Whatever it takes to keep Ukraine from falling is fine with me.

Jennifer Jacobs: "Scoop: EU leaders have zeroed in on an option to aid Ukraine reconstruction: a windfall tax on frozen Russian central bank assets, per sources. US is looped in on EU’s plan to cautiously explore this despite the range of complex issues on the sanctioned assets. @AlbertoNardelli"

NY Times: “The Biden administration asked Ukrainian officials not to conduct covert attacks inside Russia as the Wagner group rebellion was underway and advised them not to do anything that would influence the outcome of events or take advantage”

I love the idea of making Russia pay reparations to Ukraine, even indirectly. :) Ukraine is going to need a lot of Reconstruction.
