    Happy Thanksgiving, Guest!

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

For those who mock Putin for having people thrown out of windows, a Boeing whistleblower (John Barnett) here in the United States is reported as having "committed suicide" -- which is what I suspect they sometimes say in Russia.

This has a further significance in this debate, as the decline of Boeing is a contributing factor to NATO's ineffectiveness in Ukraine, Africa, China, and the Middle East.

Russia has now overtaken Germany as the world's 5th largest economy, thanks in part to the sanctions.

The track record of sanctions in general is pretty poor. It's fine for the philosophy of sanctions to be reevaluated.

I've been questioning the efficacy of sanctions for a while now. Not slowing Putin down any it seems.

But they do, dont let Russian Propaganda fool you on that.
Next to working his people to the bone while Birth rates are down, he forced everything into maintaining the War so much that everything else is neglected.
People were hoping for the Sanctions to hit fast and hard, i get that...but that wasnt in the cards.

If Europe would have been a more stable and profitable partner, most countries who still do business with Russia, would not do so.
But Europe failed on that as a whole.
We relied too much on outside countries like china, usa and russia...that made Europe less profitable.
So the sanctions arent as effective as we would want that.

But the sanctions work over time.
Russia needs to burn through more and more of its reserves, has turned its whole economy etc to feed the War so much that it will cause Russia incredible damage once the War ends.

Your cope is strong.

Birth rates are dropping nearly everywhere.

As for the rest of the world still doing business with Russia, they know what would happen if the USA conquered Russia and broke it up into twenty five different microstates. The West would then move on to attacking China and re-colonizing Africa. Macron is extremely pissed at Russia for what happened in the African Sahel -- they told France to get lost.

Europe will now fail harder, and they are failing harder, because the sanctions cut their access to cheap Russian natural resources. Germany had a long term contract for cheap Russian gas. They broke the contract and now they pay more for gas, ergo Germany is deindustrializing.

There are very deep reasons why sanctions are not working. You left one out though -- they strengthened Putin. He could now say to his country "see, the West hates us and wants to destroy us all cost, they won't even let us vacation in Paris". They neutered the Russian opposition. The oligarchs now have to invest in Russia since they can't invest in Europe.

Lastly, Europe banned Russian commercial flights from flying over Europe, so Russia banned European flights from flying over Russia. Who do you think that hurts more?

As for Europe, I think it's game over. Their growth in the past few decades is built off three pillars:

- Cheap natural resources from Africa and Russia, that's ending.
- The USA pays for their defense, that's ending.
- China provides base manufacturing for their luxury manufacturing, that's ending too. China will now produce luxury.

Europe will become a petting zoo for wealthy tourists from the Arab and East Asian countries. 500 years of striping the rest of the world and nothing to show for it.

Better than sanctions would be giving frozen Russian assets to Ukraine more quickly. Maybe that would do more in ending the war.

Why is this not a thing already?
Russia does not deserve to take part in anything.
They attack a country currently, threaten constantly the world...empty threats but still.
Russia does all they can to hurt the world, why should they be allowed to participate in such events that are meant for the world to come together?
Russia has not place in the Olympics or anything.

Russia should absolutely be banned from the Olympics this year.

Also, based on what they've been doing for the past several months, Israel should probably be banned, too.
