🌈 G9: The Rainbow Room - Part 8

Wondering, is there any part of your personality or interests once you came out that you were surprised by?

Personally, how drawn I am to romance novels when I can relate to them the most (boy meet boy).

There were hints I guess as a teen - being curious in picking one up, but always being wary that it might out me. Now, I have a whole shelf full. Going from a guy that really didn't gravitate to romance novels, or films, to having a whole shelf of them - that was unexpected.

I remember one of the things I was anxious about when I realised I was gay was the politics and having to stand up for myself and my community. I hated the idea of being the centre of attention.

Now I’m a bit older and I kind of have just accepted that’s an inevitable part of being gay and in a lot of ways it pushed me out of my shell and opened my heart to listening to other communities too

I've been sleeping to clearly AI narrated audio books on YouTube and I noticed that most of them change any reference to gay to "non-traditional group or orientation"? Dafuq.

Really? Gee that’s wild. Maybe you can give it a bad review or something

When you're the fool hoping for a Constantine film for Pride Month. :plead:

Yea we’ve definitely seen a more muted pride from geek companies this year. Guess that’s a sign of the times. An inevitable backslide.

At least DC had that cute pride special

Marvel's ally nonsense made it seem like a cheeky way to try and capitalize on Pride Month while not featuring actual LGBTQ+ characters.

Haven’t read it yet, but the X-Men wedding special wasn’t a good issue?

I thought Marvel just took a ā€œbreakā€ this year for the Mystique wedding special. I thought was basically meant to be the Voices comic this year.

That said, DC has always been more of an ally. Not just a yearly issue, but giving Jon and Tim their own series (albeit short lived), the You Brought Me The Ocean graphic novel, the upcoming Green Lantern: Alan Scott graphic novel (out in September), animated film Freedom Fighters: Ray, etc.
