🏈 NFL - Game On

1000% agreed again this year i said no more giants misery let me follow stafford and follow the rams on youtube and find McVay interviews they post fascinating and also knows most of the reporters by first name bases that goes a long way

I was out walking the dogs and started thinking about you saying this. Personally, I wouldn't get too down on the Giants just yet. Their free agency haul was pretty middling, but they did pick up a solid guy on the interior line. They do, however, have some very solid draft capital and I could see them getting a premium OT in the draft with their first pick. If you plug Cross in at RT to bookend with Thomas on the left side, all of the sudden that line protecting Jones doesn't look so bad. I'm kind of split on what I think they should do at #7. I think they could score someone like Thibodeaux or, more likely, Walker at #7 as they need someone to put pressure on the QB, but their linebacking is, well, pretty dismal and I'm surprised they didn't help themselves there in free agency. They could probably trade down to get a stud LB in round 1 and maybe still pick up a guy that could help them on D line in the upper part of round 2. They have a couple of round 3 picks and could easily pick up someone to help at LB, D/O line. I wasn't impressed with the TE pickup they got from Washington, but there are some good TEs in the draft that can be gotten around the 3rd round also.

They didn't have much money to spend so I wouldn't expect too much as far as free agency went.

EDIT: After thinking about it, I think I go Edge/OT at 7 (or vice versa with #5 depending on how 1-4 goes) and go after a LB in the 2nd. Some people have them going QB in the 2nd, but I think that would be a mistake. If you are going with Jones, go with him. Signing Taylor makes no sense if you are thinking QB in this draft at that position and I think that signing means they are serious about sticking with Jones. If you decide to bail on him, you can go QB next year.

WOW!!!! Davante Adams on steroids. LOL. I wonder what they'll have to give up? I can tell you for sure that Cleveland won't have to worry about who they'll be drafting in rounds 1 and, most likely, 2; as well as their #1 pick next year......at least.....

I always have had a soft spot for the Browns (especially after seeing Raiders vs Browns in Ohio in 2020, very cool and chill fans from what I saw.) So I'm glad they got a really great QB. Hopefully it all works out for them. I guess Baker heads to the Colts or Seattle? Colts would probably work best for him.

We would like you to waive your no trade clause because we want to pay you a quarter of a billion dollars over the next 5 years. Whaddya say? :funny:

I wonder if Rodgers will want to renegotiate his contract. LOL

Interesting news about Watson. It looks like they'll basically be spreading his salary out fairly evenly over 5 years. His signing bonus is 45M and his salary is only 1M for 2022. Presumably, that's because he may be suspended for this year and his suspension would be based only on the 1M salary. He'd average about 37M per year in salary for 2023-26 and have a cap hit averaging 46M for each of those years.

Didn't the Browns give up 3 first round picks for him? Very steep price IMO.

Man, Browns are gonna be good next year. But I may need to shower after games lol

Brown’s better Hope the league doesn’t suspend him for an extended period. I think you’ll get four or 5 games maybe.

And a future third and fourth round. Hey, if they win a Super Bowl, it’s worth it.

The Rams traded two firsts and a third for Stafford.

Right a the Steelers finally lose their rapist, the AFC North couldn't go a season without one. Browns proving they care not one bit about women.

It is the NFL after all. Beat, assault, or rape a woman? All good. Maybe a game suspension if it's super public. Get caught gambling though? Out for the year and considered an embarrassment.

Big Ben got six games, which should be the bare minimum for a suspension, but I doubt it. They'll just treat his last year off as a suspension even though he still made $10m to not play.

I am guessing he gets 6 games. But that is just a guess based on what Zeke and Ben got.

Sad truth about sports in general, basically no teams care that much. We had 4 teams alone going for Watson here and you can find past examples of teams signing people like Ben or Greg Hardy or child abuser Adrian Petersen or Tyreke Hill, etc. So the Browns are hardly alone here

Frankly, let's put the blame for lack of morality squarely where it belongs. Each owner in the NFL is a billionaire and they didn't get rich by caring about others or being icons of virtue. While, I'm sure that, some of them at least, love their families, they are first and foremost businessmen who care about their bottom line above anything else. Rape? It's bad, but, hey, people change. Gamble and endanger my bottom line? Sorry son, you've hit me where it counts and that's unforgivable. Immoral/indecent behavior, violence, and crime aren't good, but casting doubt on the "integrity" of the sport, BECAUSE it threatens my money making machine, is inexcusable.

I've brought this up before, but these are the same "free market" believers who, once it benefitted them, sought, and got, a salary cap that limited their expenses in a business where their revenues can soar as determined by "the market" prices (of which they have a monopoly). Is anyone REALLY surprised by their hypocrisy?

I'd still like to hear a cogent explanation as to why these free market barons think it's a good idea to cap expenses while having unfettered revenue. I know of one reason and it has nothing to do with economic theory or ideology......it's good for their bottom line and they'll never have enough money.

Exactly. Kneel before the national anthem and tick off a bunch of idiot fans? No more NFL for you regardless if you are better than most other QBs in the league. Beat your kids, wife, or worse? No problem as long as the team wins. Is that right? Heck no. But it is the reality of all these teams

Also, the big pick, from a value perspective is this year's 1st round pick. Now that the Browns have a QB of the caliber of Watson, we can expect a deep playoff run from them. Because of that, those 1st round picks in the next two years are worth about half of this year's pick. They are just slightly more valuable than a mid-high 2nd. That isn't to say the Texans can't get some very, very valuable players at that position because they certainly can. The Rams, for example, have been quite explicit that they don't put extraordinary value on low 1st round picks and have been aggressive in getting known quality for those picks. It's not going to work out for everyone, but the better teams in the league seem to think it's a viable strategy. For the Rams, at least, it worked.

How the Browns deal with salary cap issues has yet to be determined, but, from what I understand, the cap is expected to go up substantially in the next few years. We are in the era of 40-50M QBs. I don't begrudge them the money in the least, but I can't help but SMH.

BTW, LOVE what the Bengals have been doing in the off season. If they can get Collins to sign from Dallas, they could even go defense (interior line or CB) with their 1st and 2nd pick if they wanted (or even TE with their 2nd). There will be some very nice TEs at the end of the 3rd round. They are in a very good position right now. Man, the AFC is looking flat out NASTY right now. I see 6 teams who could be playing in the SB if things fall right for them. That's over a 1/3 of the teams in the conference and that doesn't count the possible team or two who things may fall into place for (maybe a Miami or Tennessee team??).....that level of competition is just flat out crazy.

Stafford getting the big money too.

I hope this week disabuses people of the salary cap of being a real thing. Has been and always will be an ownership excuse to be cheap while appearing as if they're spending.

Agreed......although you can't put off the expenses forever. At some point, you have to eat dead money; which counts against the salary cap (but is already paid) and/or the later, more expensive years in a contract to a few players converge.

Good for Stafford.....he delivered late in the playoff games when it counted. The Rams don't win the SB with Goff. That's a certainty.

The Rams really got over on the Titans......traded Robert Woods for a 6th round pick NEXT year. :whatever:

They better have something decent going on with salary money because they just got robbed.

The Browns actually restructured a few deals to open up a bunch of space. Last I checked, they had over 36 mil in Cap room

Rumors are that Antonio Brown wants to join.......the Cleveland Browns. You guys may have to rename the team "The Boy Scouts". LOL

We don't need him lol! On top of his checkered past, he is just a headache

I might sign him to a one year deal for a very low price. If he doesn't work out, you cut him, but DON'T offer him incentives. :funny:

For the life of me, I don't understand why the Browns wouldn't have beaten the Titans offer for Robert Woods unless they are sure about resigning Landry. Frankly, I consider Woods an upgrade over Landry when you look at all aspects of their game. Opposite Cooper, he could have been real trouble. Offering a 5th or a 6th this year for Woods would have been a steal for the Browns.
