Film 📽️ THE CINEMA LOUNGE

General Film
The old naive Kane was a different Kane back then, looking back on it (also with 2010 & 2011) I wanna redo them.

Either some movies shouldn't have been on there in the first place or I want to reorder them.

I'm so woefully behind on classic films, so this isn't going to mean as much as it should, but:

1971: Fiddler on the Roof (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Klute)
1981: Raiders of the Lost Ark (Evil Dead, Chariots of Fire)
1991: Silence of the Lambs (What About Bob?, Barton Fink)
2001: Fellowship of the Ring (Session 9, The Royal Tenenbaums, Oceans 11)
2011: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Ghost Protocol)
2021: Nine Days (Spencer, West Side Story)

In other news, I'd been planning to go see Official Competition at my local arthouse theater after being to busy last week, only to realize it had been dropped from the lineup :csad: Now how am I supposed to get my Banderas/Cruz fix?

So, here I am, listening to a podcast talking about Mad God, and I am just... :wow::wow::eek::eek::barf::barf::thud::thud::shock:shock

That sucks, it's definitely worth checking out. I'm surprised they released it in the summer, it's definitely got some award season potential.

I'm questioning whether or not to watch Mad God now or save it for my October horror marathon.

My 10 faves of 1999:

1. Galaxy Quest
2. The Iron Giant
3. The Matrix
4. Three Kings
5. Magnolia
6. The Insider
7. Fight Club
8. Election
9. Dogma
10. Toy Story 2...or The Talented Mr. Ripley

Side note, 1999 may be my favorite year for dumb comedies and rom-coms: Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dick (those two are the perfect encapsulation of Kirsten Dunst's ditz phase lol), Analyze This, Mystery Men, Blast from the Past, EdTV, 10 Things I Hate About You, Never Been Kissed, She's All That, Notting Hill, Bowfinger, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Office Space, Jawbreaker - some of my most-watched guilty pleasures, ngl.

Rewatching the Lethal Weapon films again and I have to say these really are some of the most rewatchable movies ever. Even when I just plan on watching one, I end up doing them all more than once in a year.

I've only seen the first two and this line will probably never get old.

Classic. 3 and 4 are a ton of fun too. There's more comedy in those, but they're still just as entertaining (to me at least). The inclusion of Jet Li in 4 was refreshing, and it was his first american movie.

Yeah I can't wait for it. Absolutely love where Aubrey Plaza is taking her career between this and Black Bear and Ingrid Goes West.

Me watching the 'Old Boy' remake.

Only good thing was 'Mantis' as the hot bodyguard/lover.

I will say Lethal Weapon is one of the best series in the sense that it really doesn't have a weak entry imo. 1 is for sure the best and it gets a lot more comical as it goes on. But all the other ones are solid. 3 is the only forgettable one I think from what I can remember.

I loved the final fight in Lethal Weapon 4.

If Bad Boys can squeeze out one more good entry after Will Smith comes back *fingers crossed*. Although I hated the set up for Bad Boys 4 that they teased during the BB3 ending...also the fact that they can't call it Bad Boys 4 Life. Guess they can go with Bad Boys 4Ever

Agreed! I honestly think LW4 is my favorite sequel. or a toss up between LW4 and LW2. I know that Lethal Finale is in the works, and while I do think 4 was a great place to end it, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited. Whether it actually comes to fruition though is something I still have my doubts about. Gibson is set to direct, but haven't heard much since February.

Ah must've missed that.

I know they've been trying to make a 5th one for a while. I remember it's been so long that Columbus Short (my top choice for John Stewart back during my high school days) was considered for the role of Murtagh's kid. Now he's pretty much out of Hollywood's mainstream. Or at least I feel like I read that back in the day.

I agree that 4 was a great place to end it. With the whole We Are Family montage and stuff. It addressed them aging, etc. Bringing it back feels a bit pointless.

In addition to that, I feel like there's not that much demand for a 5th.
Gibson had his controversies which turned a lot of people off to him.
Glover is actually too old. He's 75.
I don't feel like Lethal Weapon isn't a series like that that I see people demanding a new entry 24 years later.
Also, I don't know what they can do with Gibson and a 75 yr old Glover to get audiences on board. It's not like Top Gun 2 where you can really focus on the stunts, nostalgic feeling, etc.

To be fair, I didn't think Top Gun 2 would be as big as it was. But at least Top Gun was a little more discussed than Lethal Weapon.

I'll believe 5 will come out when I see it.

EDIT: Top Gun also had the benefit of not having a bunch of installments like Alien, Terminator, Lethal Weapon, etc.
