    Happy Thanksgiving, Guest!

Film 📽️ THE CINEMA LOUNGE

General Film
I remember first seeing motion smoothing in action at Best Buy way back in the day, probably like 15 years ago or so when HDTVs were first starting to really explode on the market and I wasn't impressed at all by it because it essentially made Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest look like a big budget soap opera. I didn't think it was still even a thing.

I think it only really works with CG animated movies. I remember seeing Toy Story 3 on display with the motion smoothing on and it looks so lifelike.

Now that you mention it, there are some video games that it works well on too. But still in that same ballpark as CG animated films where if it's something that isn't "real", it doesn't look as jarring with the motion smoothing.

This is the first time I have heard of motion smoothing. Haha
I hadn't really heard the term "motion smoothing" until recently but you've most likely seen it in action before:

Okay I see the difference now. It’s slight (not enough to bother me) but it’s there.

Ironically, Maverick will probably be a film that'll be used heavily on those motion smoothing TVs at Best Buy. All that aerial footage is perfect for trying to sell how "real" it makes everything look.

I remember when The hobbit was released with a 48 fps rate in the movies.

That was weird.

The teaser trailer for 'Copenhagen Cowboy' looks beautiful. NWR with another one!

Thrilled to hear the rave reviews for 'Banshees of Inisherin.' Maybe the best reaction out of all the Venice debuts. Most of the pundits weren't paying it much attention, but it was foolish to discount McDonagh, especially with Farrell and Gleason on board.

I've been eager for this project ever since it was just the unfinished final play in a three-part circuit McDonagh had planned. Now it's got a shot at landing Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason their first noms. Lots of praise for Kerry Condon, too.

The Fountain is one of my all time favorites and I feel like 50% of it belongs to Clint Mansell's score.

I am definitely hyped for that one.

Venice Film Festival is on now and TIFF starts this week. What movies are you looking forward to? Any big buzz out there? Haven't had a chance to look through the films being screened.
Coming out of Venice I'm most hyped for Banshees of Inisherin, Women Talking, The Whale and Bones and All. TIFF will have The Fabelmans and Glass Onion, both very exciting.

In terms of buzz, there's lots of praise for Women Talking. The Whale is looking to be divisive as a whole due to the story, but very good word on Fraser. Empire of Light seems pretty basic, but raves for Olivia Colman (obviously) and Michael Ward. And like I mentioned earlier, Banshees of Inisherin kind of blew up the race by being the best reviewed debut of the festival after not really playing into the pundits' predictions beforehand.

I'll definitely look for this one. I saw Three Billboards at TIFF a few years back and loved it, also enjoyed In Bruges. McDonagh seems to often overlooked, I recall that being a discussion point during the Oscars the year of Three Billboards that he always gets snubbed.

I saw some clips of Fraser at Venice for The Whale. I looked it up, but the IMDB description doesn't give too much detail. Glass Onion is definitely one I'm interested in. I love whodunnits in the first place and Knives Out was great.

This motion picture was based on the true events of Frank Dux.

How can one not laugh at that! Another classic.

Amadeus

A rewatch/revisit.

This might now sneak into my top 10 of all time. Sweet lord. I just gotta figure out which one to bump down.

@DarthSkywalker is my Salieri. He knows this to be true.
Amazing film that sadly never seems to pop up in the GOAT conversations like it should.

Speaking of films about classical composers, I've heard strong things about 'Chevalier''s TIFF debut. Strong chance it gets held for release until next year's awards cycle, like what happened with The Sound of Metal. Good star feature for Kelvin Harrison Jr. + a worthy story to be told. Also, no surprise, but it's said to have an incredible score.

Just waiting for the Russos to hit their Kurtzman & Orci phase...
