Film 📽️ THE CINEMA LOUNGE

General Film
Now while you guys were watching Tolkien come to life, I was in the theaters watching this anachronistic classic:

The Mummy Returns is still one of my favorite guilty cinematic pleasures lol.

Dude, I practically lived at the movie theater in 2001. Of course I saw The Mummy Returns. It's really not that bad if you take away the ridiculous CGI Scorpion King. :o

Hey I was there too!

I also made a promise to my little bro that because The Rock was in it and we were so locked into WWF(E) at the time, we were going to watch every movie The Rock was in no matter what. To say the least, we didn't know what we signed up for... for better and for worse. :o

Did you guys tap out after Scorpion King or keep it going with The Rundown, Walking Tall, and Be Cool? :o

I have seen his pre-Fast 5 cool guy action movies, his crazy kid movies, and his bizarre attempts at being THE GUY™.

I have even seen Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and didn't even see the first one with Brendan Fraser. :o

If it wasn't for all the yucky creatives, I probably would've already watched The Usual Suspects. I don't know the twist, though! For that reason alone, it probably should be on my watch list. I was able to watch Fight Club unspoiled like five years ago, these are precious, rare opportunities these days :funny:
Gross creatives is why Roman Polanski is a big void in my film viewing history. Never done Chinatown or Rosemary's Baby or any of those. Didn't get them in before teenage me found out what he'd done. I'll see them sometimes. After he's well dead. For now, makes my skin crawl too much.

I’m right there with you Kane.

Also own all of them on DVD. Thank you WalMart. :sneeze:

I don’t blame you whatsoever.

But I’m not even gonna lie, Rosemary’s Baby is still the best horror film of all time IMO. It’s disturbing and realistic all at once, I watch it once every other year just to preserve the feelings you get from it. Should’ve been Mia Farrow’s Oscar.

But again Polanski is a repugnant piece of work.

I certainly believe they're very good. Plenty of ****ty people make great things. Lot of things I love by ****ty people. But that one just makes me too disgusted while he's still alive and making movies.

All you people who refuse to watch Footloose have no soul.

For me, it’s most older war movies, like From Here to Eternity, Midway, and the Green Berets.

I’ve also never seen all of A Clockwork Orange. And I haven’t seen Spartacus.

What are some films that you know simply through pop culture references but haven't actually sat down and watched. Mine are probably Casablanca, Citizen Kane, and Romancing the Stone.
Citizen Kane is worth seeing — and it’ll check off “the greatest film ever made” on your personal bucket list. Granted, it’s a tad slow. But IMO, it’s more accessible than the works of (say) Ozu, Bergman or Fellini.

Casablanca has a lot of heart. And it’s also a lot of fun. Yes, some of the melodrama and dialogue is dated — and even kitschy. (“Was that canon fire? Or is it my heart pounding?”) But that’s kinda the point. Casablanca is an “experience.” Watch it with friends. And take a shot every time you hear a familiar line that’s entered into the pop culture zeitgeist. Y’all will be nicely toasted by the movie’s end. :word:

Oscar Wilde apparently thought a healthy gay relationship was having sex with underage boys.

I have a lot of blind spots with Woody Allen for a similar reason. I do believe in seperating the art from the artist, but it's an entirely different matter whether I actually seek those works out or not when there's several lifetimes of stuff out there that I want to experience from people that I don't despise. Like the recent Harry Potter video game, in theory I could very well get a used copy and play the game, Rowling didn't even work on it, but there's just so much other stuff, so I haven't bothered.
Y'know, on topic, I've actually never watched a Woody Allen film, so we can also add Annie Hall and anything else he's done to that list of pop culturally relevant films that I haven't seen. I've only seen two movies that he's acted in: the original Casino Royale and Antz. This had nothing to do with how I think of him as a person, I just never really got around to watching anything he's done but know after knowing how terrible of a person he is, I'm just like "Why bother?"

Good thing my brain usually checks out during the scenes where we see MJ acting in that dorky play of his in Spider-Man 2. :o

Casablanca is up there for me. It's a Wonderful Life is a big one.

BTW, did you watch Smile? I want to see Smile 2 for some odd reason, but I'm wondering if I have to watch the 1st one to majorly keep up with this Naomi Scott one.

You also wanna see how completely opposite Jessie T. Usher is in Smile 1 as opposed to playing A-Train. :o

But keep in mind both of these movies are all about the jump scares and f**ked up imagery... if you hate it, don't blame me this time, I warned you. :o

Everyone always says the biggest mystery of Pulp Fiction was what was in the briefcase but to me it was always "Why didn't Jules pistol whip Jimmy for throwing that word around so freely?" :o

And his character had the nerve to have a black wife.

Spike Lee still owes his big chinned ass a slap. :sneeze:

Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct is a must watch. Back to back. Michael Douglass went on quite the sleazy run.
