My point is that it wasn't a MASS shooting.

Also you don't seem to know all the facts in the mall shooting. 1 person (the alleged gangster) was killed. 7 other innocent people were wounded. Those are the facts.

Thats hilarious because the point I was making was about gun violence in the NA population not about technicalities.

I got the toronto shooting details just fine simply because I work in the area.A kid took a bullet in the head, a man was dead, a pregnant woman almost got hit and went into labor, hundreds of people were in mass panic rushing out of the mall. Im pretty sure they werent concerned about wether the death count measured at the time when they started to hear shots going off in front of the masses in a packed food court. This was no comunity mall.

Saw the film tonight. Was VERY surprised to see that gangster trailer with the theater shooting play. It didn't go over wellin my theater.

The man had a choice to act on those imbalances; whatever dark thoughts are looming in his mind. What makes him evil is that he acted upon his darker thoughts; and you don't have to be religious to say that. The man is evil; I'm saying it.

I'm with you. It is ridiculously easy to justify evil acts to yourself. Selfish/egoist people do this every single day like breathing. It is also easy to analyze your own behavior and make the right choice even if it's the one most don't make. Nobody is bound by determinism. There are people that go through hell and come out Mother Theresa, and those that have no legitimate excuse that essentially terrorize everybody in their life. The bulk of the factors is choices we make.

They said they were going to try and get it pulled...but the act of getting that done could be a problem...so I'm sure some didn't get pulled.

What do you mean it didn't go well? What exactly was the crowd reaction?

I went to the noon showing today. Was one person working the counter, one ushering. Not a single mention was heard, even with the gangster movie trailer. However, when I drove past this evening the news van was there, surely asking people about something that has virtually nothing to do with the movie.

“All the ammunition he possessed, he possessed legally, all the weapons he possessed, he possessed legally, all the clips he possessed, he possessed legally,” Oates said.

Its too bad because you know a sequel to bowling for columbine is coming. Regardless, specially if the guy is mentally ill, or some idiot living out his fantasy of being famous, you cant simply be allowing people to obtain these weapons because at the end of the day you just cant trust every godamn human being with a weapon.

Yes, let's keep weapons out of the hands of the 0.00000000000000001% that commit these atrocities. Gun bans certainly eviscerated violent crime in Chicago.

BRB, gonna go lobby my senator to submit a bill to outlaw airplane travel because like one plane crashes every year. People would be safer if they just all took cars, boats and buses to travel instead.

:P

No that just makes him weak. Some people are stronger than others. The brain works the same way.

Now before you start freaking out let me be crystal clear; I am NOT making excuses for this guy. I'm just saying that the brain is a very very complex thing and what you might precive as being evil might just be some guys brain not working the way it was supposed to.

You could also rephrase that as, "some people are more good than others." But I would say he's weak as well. It takes strength to do the right thing, doesn't it?

No, I don't think you meant to make excuses for him. I used to hold to a similar sort of view as well. But I can no longer see an idea such as an imbalance in the brain as adequate enough to say what a person did wasn't wrong and the end result of his actios as not being evil. Sure, the urge might have been here, but what was he reasoning when he acted upon the urge? Not every person who is a sociopath kills, nor does every bi-polar person, nor does every person with clinical depression; I would even dare guess that most of them don't kill at all. This man knew enough to plan this attack out, to booby-trap his apartment, to not put up a fight against the police, and to lawyer up after getting caught yet I am to believe he didn't understand that it's wrong to kill people?

It seems with shootings that happen like this the shooter is always described has quiet and shy.
(I dont know I guess people being bottled)

I don't believe that numinous nonmaterial malevolent forces mess with the tangled cluster of neurons in peoples brains. I'm sorry.

There is one tidbit that doesn't quite sit well with me.

If one of the tenants in his apartment building called the police about the noise of the music, and then the music was shut off, then how did they get into the booby-trapped apartment? The shooter was at the theater, so someone had to get in there.

Thats just it. Colorado has a system in place that allows someone to do what they just did through perfectly legal means even after the columbine fiasco. Most systems can live with exceptions or even aberrations to the norm. Today this just proved that this isnt one of them. Your 0.00000000000000001% just tried killing as many people as the bullets he could physically and legally carry would let him. You cant simply trust caliber weapons on someones good judgement. A persons mental makeup is not something that is easily quantifiable and that is guaranteed to be constant with time.

There can be some sort of middle ground possibly, but this system is too delicate to simply ignore the cases where someone with the intent of killing many can legally obtain the means to do so. Unfortunately we cant say well its just 12 dead out of millions of Americans so its an acceptable casualty and therefore the gun control system works. The president was on tv talking about it and its an unacceptable loss that promotes terror. Its a tragedy & this isnt something that can be swept under the rug. Lets see this psycho be just as efficient when its more difficult and expensive to score all the gear he had at the theatre and probably has in his apt.

As far as I understand, theres so much crap wired they wont go in until tomorrow. This whole apt business doesnt add up. I still dont get why he told the police about the traps and not let them take the hit.

Don't get distracted from the real issues. Like I've been saying, there's a metal health crisis in America but people don't wanna talk about it because the discussion gets political and to most people that's "boring".

How do you mean? What kind of mental health crisis? THis is not a challenge I'm really curious. Anyway I will be praying for everyone involved in this. This is the saddest most heartbreaking news I have heard in a long time. I pray that God would provide comfort to those who have lost loved ones.

During a report I read she said she called a non emergency police line and complained of noise, then it went off in 40 minutes. I assumed they sent a single cop or something. It just doesn't sit right. Somebody had to turn off the music, but it would be impossible to get in there without it blowing.

That's what makes me doubt these traps. If he had traps that he know would work, he wouldn't just tell them about it. This is very fishy.

It could be some type of thing towards him going the insanity route because telling the police about the explosives is left field you would think he would want them to go in.

You know, I'm trying to follow the line of logic it takes to premeditate this level of dissonance and it's just not computing. I mean what motivation can anyone have to go into a crowded theater and kill 12 people? The only theoretical reason I can think of inside my head is that this guy belongs to a secretive group of homegrown terrorists, like the ones that bombed the F. Murrah building in Oklahoma City, who really hate what Nolan was trying to say about groups that consider themselves the so called "liberators" of the people. Groups this crazy would think a movie's message is aimed at them and maybe that shooting was more of a message...a very crazily motivated one, but a message nonetheless. He could have chosen any midnight showing of any movie that opened this Summer. Why did he choose The Dark Knight Rises?

Power could have been cut to his suite.

Stereo could have burnt out after being played for so loud and so long.

Heck, what if it was a record player and the record ended?? We don't know so you can't assume.

This picture is incredibly disrespectful.

I can't possibly understand the logic there.

It's a fictional character and hero mourning the deaths of innocent people. No different than Spider-man reacting to and mourning the victims of 9/11.
