Police: 4 dead, including gunman, in Aurora, Colo., hostage situation

Updated at 4:45 p.m. ET: Two men and one woman were found dead inside a home in Aurora, Colo., after a gunman took them hostage early Saturday morning, police said in a news release. The gunman was shot and killed by police after hours of failed negotiation attempts.

Another woman who had been inside the house was able to escape uninjured and alert authorities, the news release said. The woman told police that an adult male still inside was armed and had fired shots inside the home. She said she saw three people in the home who appeared lifeless as she was leaving.

Oh man. :( this poor city. I had never even heard of it before all this

STOP, PEOPLE. JUST STOP.

Put down the gun and start talking like normal individuals! A gun is not going to solve your problems, unless your problem is bigger than you, and coming directly at you with a deadly weapon intending to do you harm.

I know a vast majority of people think reasonably like that, but I just don't understand the vat minority who think otherwise.

^It doesn't matter unless it happens directly to you.

A trial's going to happen:

A judge ruled late Thursday that there's enough evidence for James Holmes to face trial on charges that he killed 12 people and injured 70 others in a Colorado movie theater last summer.

Judge William Sylvester said prosecutors have established probable cause to proceed with 166 felony counts, including murder and attempted murder.

Holmes is due to be arraigned Friday, but his defense attorneys filed papers Thursday afternoon saying he's not ready to enter a plea. They are likely to appear in court Friday to ask for the arraignment to be delayed.

I don't. I'm building a rocket and moving to Jupiter. I've had it with people.
They're taking applications to be Mars colonists. Except you'll be stuck with the group of other astronauts chosen by reality TV show. :hehe:

New info:

Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes is prepared to enter a guilty plea in the cold-blooded killings of 12 people in exchange for life in prison instead of the death penalty ... this according to Holmes' lawyer.

Holmes' legal team offered the plea deal to prosecutors during a court session earlier today ... but according to the AP, prosecutors did not immediately accept the offer.

Prosecutors have not commented on Holmes' offer yet -- but it's likely they will consult with the families of the victims before reaching a decision.

Besides the 12 people he killed, Holmes shot an additional 58 people in the Century movie theater in Aurora, CO on the night of July 20, 2012. He was charged with 24 counts of first degree murder and 116 counts of attempted murder.

Yeah, he can still weasel out of the death penalty. They won't put him with other prisoners obviously.

Cruel and unusual punishment my ass. We need to start instituting some ridiculous methods of execution. This piece of scum deserves drowning, or firing squad but no shots to the head. He needs to feel the pain before he goes.

Saw this bumped in my subscriptions and it made me sad. :(

I would rather live on a planet that did not make X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

That just means more Blu-Ray copies for me :)

But to bring this back on subject... I hope the prosecution doesn't accept the guilty plea in exchange for a life sentence.

Yeah, he can still weasel out of the death penalty. They won't put him with other prisoners obviously.

Even so, I'm still seeing this dude getting murdered in prison eventually, just like what happened to Dahmer.

Dahmer pretty much changed how these guys are set up in Prison......they are in solitary 23 hours a day, and then outside, by themselves for their 1 hour. If he is killed, it would have to be a set up between the guards and inmates...

How do you kill 12 people but get 24 counts of first degree murder?

No. That's ridiculous. Sorry for the harshness, but grow a pair. Or at least gain perspective. You're about 10,000 times more likely to die in a car accident on the way to the movie theater. It was a horrible tragedy, but this isn't something you should live in fear of. Seriously, man up.

He targeted Batman for a reason. I don't think anybody is going to shoot up a Fast and Furious early screening. The fanbase is crazy in a whole other way.
