Depends. Warner Bros. could maybe want to distance the film from the tragedy, so that when people think of the film they don't immediately think of what happened.

Cynically speaking, maybe they'd want to avoid taking a major hit at the box office?

Or maybe they might actually want to publicly appear as sensitive and considerate to the victims.

I don't know, a million ways to look at it. Plus, what Matt says is true. If things change, and these unconfirmed rumors true about the shooter, then I could see them pulling it if atleast for a week.

Warners will say that they are pulling it due to respect for the victims of the tragedy. IF they pull it. Which again, will only happen if the numbers are low (which means it has nothing to do with respect, but rather business).

I honestly hope that if the media even begins to blame the film, that people will remind them what Batman and all superheroes are about- hope. Something that this guy clearly wanted to destroy.

I really have to applaud the Aurora police for their quick and professional response to this tragedy, the policemen, the hospital workers, the mental health people- these are the true people giving hope in this tragedy.

Warners could not care less about "giving into terrorism." No offense, that is a naive world view. Warners cares about one thing, money. If this movie does poorly today, they will pull it under the guise of showing respect to the victims. It'll probably happen some time this evening when the projections start to come in of the night time showings. If the movie is successful and it seems like it will have a good weekend, they will leave it. It is all about business, nothing more.

I've talked to quite a few people who said that they had plans to see it this weekend but won't now. I was considering cancelling my plans. I am not sure I want to see it with this in the back of mind. I want to escape when I go to a movie. Not be reminded of poor Jessica Redfield's tweets.

They will look at the money that it made after the midnight showings obviously. There is a business logic behind all of this. If pulling it will result in more money being made next month, they will do so. If it doesn't, they'll leave it. Smarter people than any of us are discussing this right now and they aren't considering whether the terrorist wins or if it is respectful. They are considering one thing: $$$.

Some people are going to be naturally weary of going to the movies after news like this.

It's just the human psyche. It's like Matt says if the movie performs poorly tonight it'll be pulled because Warner Brothers will want to salvage the Batman brand and get money from it instead of letting it falter and yes they will say it was in respect of the victims. Why can't people get this? I was just in a heated conversation with a friend about this very thing. TDKR ha nothing to do with some little **** that wanted to get a documentary filmed about him. Jesus, the next couple of months are going to be crazy with Media Watchdog groups left and right.

To be blunt....some here will call me a jerk for saying this....but if they pull it from theaters when I have already bought my tickets and arranged my whole schedule this weekend around attending TWO showings Saturday and Sunday with different people....I will be pissed off.

There is no valid reason for them to do this. None whatsoever.

It won't be "honoring the victims" to pull a movie from theaters that had nothing to do with why Holmes did what he did in the first place, and it would be giving him far wider-reaching influence than he deserves.

Have you read Jessica Redfield's Twitter account? Her life was snuffed out at that movie. The happy, NHL loving, Texan Godmother-to-be had her life snuffed out at a showing of TDKR. I am not saying that the movie is responsible. I don't think anyone in this thread has said that. But I am not going to be able to watch the movie without thinking of how excited poor Jessica Redfield was and then her not being excited an hour later. I'm not blaming the movie, but the two events are now associated in a lot of people's minds.

That would be an insane business decision from Warners. The shareholders would clean house. That said, it would be just about the best decision that any corporation has ever made, from a being a decent human being perspective. Warners will donate something to a victim relief fund, but not all revenue from the first weekend.
