A history of 20+ years does not equal to a plot worthy of 2 hours.
The "just" of the cartoons is about transforming robots, both good and bad, who have made earth their home.
Anything else is an extension of plot presented through each episode.

Which is why I still dont get why the plot we KNOW the movie has should be considered "paper-thin".
That doesnt seem fare to me, because I like the story this film has.
Every character has an objective in this film; the Autobots, the Decepticons, Sam, Sector 7 etc ....

Nobody watched and loved the cartoon because it had 20+ years of bible-thick plot -- it had to TAKE 20 years to create that, lol !

They CHOSE to base this movie solely on the cartoon. And then they took the cartoon origin and simplified it even more. It now boils down to "let's chase this cube thing all over the universe".

Humans are stuck in between.

I dont think this is a Lord Of The Rings type mythology and plot, again which is why I dont mind the story this movie has.
"Paper-thin" plot implies the story sucks or that there is no story to begin with.
When infact Sam has a story.
Optimus has a story he tells Sam.
Sector 7 has a story and its because of that story they want Sam.
I say I like it.

I didn't say people won't like it...you probably will like it. Hell I probably will like it...but tht doesn't mean its got a decent story/plot/character development.

And that post I linked you too has the LotR comparison as well. I don't think it has that sort of mythology but it could definitely rank up there with Star Wars if handled correctly.

He's probably just comparing it to other MB films and how they aren't very story driven either...more action driven.
