Nah... luckily the people who award this thing acknowledge that team success is a huge part of what makes an MVP.. who cares if a guy averages 50 points a game for a year and their team has only one 20 games?

And also... who wants to see an MVP not even make the playoffs and continue his season? I think I'd be weirded out if that ever happened.
Exactly

You have to at least make it to the playoffs(the deeper the better), and have phenomenal overall statistics.
I define an average team who is only content in making the playoffs:o

uh, I wasn't talking in terms of motivation or desired goal. I was talking about accomplishment. Only two teams make it to the Championship, and only one has a successful season. An MVP of the regular season only has to make it to the playoffs, and win a few rounds to be considered, if his season was amazing. Right now, I think Nash has the slight edge, but Kobe is a contender. Chauncey is also a candidate(he's underrated, but his teammates hurt his chances for individual awards.)

NBA of course because I dont recall any players in the NBA winning the mvp on an average team. There teams are usually title contenders!

Wow. That's some good company. Things are looking good for Steve and have considerably improved for Chauncey.

Wow, I am behind and just watched the game where Kobe scored 81 points. And I don't care what anyone says, that is worthy of all the praise. His team was down by nearly 15 at the half, so he did what he had to do to win. To say that the Lakers would be the worst team in the league without Kobe means what? Your right, but whats the point in saying that anyway. The fact is that he is part of the team and he just helped them come from behind and win a game that seemed out of reach by doing something that has not been done in over 40 years. I am a Lakers fan. Would I like to see Kobe pass more? yes. would I want better people around him? of course. But that does not take away from what i just saw, it was a incredable thing to watch just like all the Kobe moments I have watched over the years. i think its time to stop comparing him to Jordan since he has come into his own(of course I thought he did way before this but anyway) Its so easy to jump on the "I hate Kobe" bandwagon, well I am proud to say I am a fan of him and nothing anyone can say can take away from the fact that he just made history.

ARTEST is dealt to SACTOWN!

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Pacers have agreed to trade Ron Artest to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Peja Stojakovic pending league approval, ESPN's Jim Gray has confirmed Tuesday.

The deal closes a chapter in the Pacers' latest drama involving the volatile star forward.

Kings owners Gavin and Joe Maloof on ESPNEWS would not comment directly on ESPN's report that the Kings pending league approval will trade Peja Stojakovic to the Pacers for Ron Artest.
Artest was a key component to a team that was expected to challenge for the Eastern Conference crown. He led the league in steals and was the Pacers' second-leading scorer at 19.4 points a game before being deactivated after publicly requesting a trade in early December.

In five years with the Pacers, Artest was an All-Star once and was the NBA's defensive player of the year in 2003-04.

Pacers GM Larry Bird said the Pacers had been interested in Corey Maggette of the Los Angeles Clippers, but there was "no question" that Maggette's sprained left foot affected the process. Maggette averaged 21.7 points in 13 games before getting injured in early December.

The Pacers have lost four of their last five games, including Monday to the Atlanta Hawks, who have the NBA's worst record.

Yes I get to keep Maggette!
think again this makes sacto stronger..... and might knock the lakers or the clippers off the playoff VIP list...... :down

Indiana was never seriously considering Maggette after they found out that his type of injury is possibly career ending. I hope that doesn't happen, but it's a risk of the game.

Sac-town has Artest:eek:  . His presence will improve their 'at times' non-existent D.

riiight:rolleyes: I would have love to have knuckle head Ron Artest with my L.A. Clippers. Im sure Artest would hang more Snoop Dog, Dr Dre, and The Game more than his own teammates:o

do you even realize what you said??? you said youd rather have YOUR maggette( who may not even play this year) on your team..then your team make the playoffs...thats ABSURD..... i didnt even mention ron artest being on your team..i said the Queens are now stronger and will make a push for the post season... which means someones being bumped.....think about it.... :thing:

Ron Artest is a better 'all-around' player than Corey Magette. Ron can't help it if he has emo issues that make him seem crazy. . . or maybe he really is crazy:confused: . Well know that depending on how his tenure w/ the next team (SacKings) is.

BTW Maggette was playing great B-ball this year before he got injured. A sure shoe-in for the all star game this year if he didnt get injured:(

Oh **** Artest for Peja???

That's what I'm saying. Sacremento screwed Indy. Maybe the Pacers wanted a pure scorer. . . who doesn't play D. Ron Artest is a good offensive player who is top 5 in the league defensively.

BTW, nice post in the 'New Network' thread Luda. It's one of the funniest I've ever read on here.

I don't know Peja is a good premieter support for Jermaine and them.
The Pacers have a better shot at the playoffs

With the Kings and there record they aint gonna make the playoffs and ron-ron may get frustrated. Then again Sacramento is a great crowd still and it will be cool to see the fans reaction everytime Artest hustles on the court

and Alpha, your right. I guess with today being my Birthday....I got some humour as a gift. I can't wait to get out of work and party :(. 15 minutes to go!!!!

Peja plays no defense and he'll be going to a team that still stuggles on D.. maybe not like Sac but they're gonna suffer. Artest was able to guard 1-3 positions and on most nights locked the perimeter. I also see Peja falling off a bit. He's going from being the man to being a complimentary player.

Artest can shine in Sac.. it's a quiet neighborhood and it changed Webbers career. He's got a solid team around him. It's certainly gonna make the Kings better with his defense.

Sac is getting the better deal IMO.
