How do you feel about this year in film?
It was alright. Better than 09

I think I noticed some trends

1. Trailers dont mean sh**. The Wolfman, The Last Airbender, Clash of the Titans, Robin Hood looked awesome from the trailers and turned out to be crap in the end; while How to Train Your Dragon, Despicable Me, Unstoppable, Red looked bad from the trailers and ended up being some of the highest reviewed films.
2. Remakes can be awesome. I already knew this, but I dont think alot of people know it. Let Me in and True Grit I keep hearing are the 2 of the best films this year. Then again we also had Clash of the Titans
3. 2010=The Year or Repeats. The Losers, Red, A Team, and the Expendables were the same team vs government action movie. Also The Bounty Hunter, Knight & Day, THe Tourist, Killers were the same romantic action comedy. And Despicable Me & Megamind were the same supervillain turns good in the end animation film

Things you noticed and things you liked?

I read 96 percent of movies these past two years were remakes, reboots , and / or re imaginings.

Out of the trends , I liked team action like Inception , A- Team , Expendables , and Losers .

I learned to pass on "boyfriend is assassin"movies like Killers, Knight and Day, and The Tourist.

Also this has been a great year for animated films , I went to see about five in the theater and enjoyed them all.

Remakes are good but either hit or miss .

Something I noticed was that you didn't use spoilers. :cmad::woot:

Director > Actors?

The biggest thing I noticed, and this is something that I've realized in 2009 but is helping to make my point stronger in 2010, is that Big name Stars aren't the big key grossing much money. Big name directors are now becoming more key to that. Avatar and Inception are two examples. I would say Alice in Wonderland partly but I'd say it was half Tim Burton and half Johnny Depp. Several A-list stars had flops and bombs the last two years so I believe that the audience are relying more who directed what than who's starring in it. I think that trend will continue.

Rotten Tomatoes

I also think that Rotten Tomatoes is also becoming a reason too. Rotten Tomatoes is now in the top 500 (334) most visited sites in the US and in the top 1000 (831) in the world. It's also becoming popular among the key 18-24 demographic and is also popular to 25-34 year old. Films without an installed fanbase that has low scores tend to gross less than some films with high tomatometerscores. There are exceptions, but big budget films with high RT scores tend to do much better than big budget films with low scores (they tend to fall flat).
