I want Sean Weatherspoon.....are we gonna do the mock draft thing again this year where we control a franchise(or more)?

Dez is already in commercials.

Benefits of not being part of the NCAA.

I think Steelers might go QB in a later round in prep for the Big Ben exit post suspension and the people turning on him.

Looks like Bradford had an impressive Pro Day workout today. Hope that seals the deal for ther Rams taking him, and puts Suh in Honolulu Blue

I sure hope not. I would much rather have Spiller or Kyle Wilson + some extra picks.

If we pass on Suh, it better be for an embarassment of riches. While Spiller is a nice little back, Suh may be the most complete DL in the draft in the last decade.

Plus we haven't had a semblance of a pass rush since Porcher retired, and that might come in handy vs Favre, Rodgers, and Cutler.

I hope the rams don't draft Suh because I'm not sold on him and I hear this every year about top ten DL to the point in which I'm just not sold on top ten DL. And for people who say he the difference is he was in the top 5 for the Heisman trophy remember it was a pretty weak year for contenders.

Honestly I would trade Suh for a first and second in this years draft (and any trade we get will be significantly more than that).

The fact is that unless he can play some DE, I don't think Suh makes this team all that much better.

For one, Schwartz is a man who utilizes a rotation at DT. We already have two legit NFL starting defensive tackles in Corey Williams and Sammie Lee Hill. What we need to do is add another legit NFL defensive tackle - we don't need a superstar. At 2, I would almost rather have Okung than Suh as his arrival would improve the LT and LG positions. LG is the biggest hole on this football team.

The Lions have already bolstered their defensive line. If we could pull off a trade for Anthony Hargrove for a 4th round pick, then the defensive line's gone from a weakness to a strength (Suh would do the same thing, but for a greater cost).

If we can trade from 2 to 4 and pick up Russel Okung and Jahvad Best - our team benefits more than having Suh. You add in our second round pick that could be spent on a player like Carlos Dunlap or Devin McCourtney or possibly even use the pick to jump on a talent that slipped like Dez Bryant (though I don't think he would have any chance to drop past 2-1).

Hell, I think trading down further and picking up someone like Eric Berry would probably help our defensive more than Suh.

I think Suh is going to disappoint at the next level. People need to realize that so much of success in college came from dominating people. That's an option he won't have.

Since 2001, 10 tackles have gone in the top 10. 2 have made the Pro Bowl (John Henderson, Kevin Williams). That's a success rate of 20%

Since 2001, 13 QB's have gone in the top 10. 5 have gone to the Pro Bowl. That's a success rate of 40%

If this was a position where production in college was relevant to production in the NFL - wouldn't the success rate be a bit better than one of the most difficult positions to draft?

I am not saying Suh will be bad, I think he is a great player (and ranked fourth on my big board behind Eric Berry, CJ Spiller and Kyle Wilson) - but I don't think he will meet the hype he has now.

Dominating dt's always depend so much on coaching and the players around them...they could use an RB...but that would mean they're handing the ball off, when they should be passing.

They should go Okung in 1 and D-Will at 2....but they wont.

Williams won't be on the board at 2 - NT's are a premium.

If the ProFootballTalk about Jared Gaither is true - screw Okung and trade a second for Jared Gaither. Go Eric Berry at 1.

D-will, Tate, or Benn will be there in round 2.

Even though i disagree on the impact of Suh to the team, you make a well thought out argument.

You really think they'd consider Berry with the emergence of Delmas at S?

I know you need 2 of them but just think we'd fill holes elsewhere.

Delmas is the reason I think Berry should be an option at all. I'm a big believer in developing strengths - having a safety duo of Delmas and Berry would make the Lions safety position the best in the NFL within three years.

Both are hard hitting, fast safeties with corner-like-coverage ability. Schwartz places tremendous emphasis on safety play. Furthermore a player like Berry gives us so many options in the secondary.

We can move Berry to corner opposite Chris Houston, we can place him in the nickle, we can move him close to the line where he played a lot his junior year - he's a tremendously versatile player.

I have trouble seeing anyone trading up to take the number two spot. The Jets jumped to five last year, but out of desperation for a franchise QB. I'm not sure I see a team willing to trade up for a Sam Bradford or Suh (Tennessee maybe?). The price for that pick, along with paying the player is going to be incredibly steep.

I know Detroit wants to trade down, but they may have to take a slightly lesser trade to lure a team up to that pricey two spot.

A team like Washington would have no problem trading up to 2 if Bradford slips - and they would have to trade up at that point if they wanted him.

A team like Cleveland would have no problem trading up to 2 if they wanted Suh (he would be a great fit, providing Mangini a Richard Seymore type).

The teams I am looking at trading up are already set to spend a ton of money on a rookie - in the 4-10 range.

Bradford could fall to Washington provided no other team trades up to grab him, Buffalo perhaps, though they need a OT just as bad.

Cleveland sounds like a viable option, though if last year is an indicator, Mangini may want to stockpile pics again.

The buzz right now is that Sam Bradford may prefer Washington to St. Louis, and he is actually in a position to alter where he goes.

How?

Pre Draft Contracts, baby.

Last year Martin Mayhew refused to draft a player who would not sign a contract prior to the draft - the reason is simple: as soon as they are drafted, the players hold the power. When that power is the first pick which generates stupid money - that's a reason to be careful.

If Sam Bradford refuses a Pre Draft deal (as has been reported), then it would be extremely difficult for St. Louis to draft him. ESPECIALLY if McNabb (or Vick) is still available for trade talks.

If Sam Bradford doesn't sign, St. Louis will take the highest rated DT on their board and Washington will likely trade up to 2 to pick Bradford.

The reason Washington would have to trade up rather than stay is that Martin Mayhew has made it quite clear that he is looking to trade down. Not only that, he has made it clear he will have offers to trade down. That forces Washington to act at the 2 spot. Mayhew, who normally is very tight lipped, has intentionally been very public about trading down for this very reason.

Once again, the Lions finally have tremendous pieces under the hood of that franchise. Mayhew and Schwartz are a tremendous duo.

Mayhew is definitely playing this poker game perfectly in order to trade down out of that pricey spot and stockpile pics. I think that Bradford will end up in St. Louis, though. They need a franchise QB and won't land McNabb (And Vick isn't a franchise QB). The market for Suh is good, but I don't think as many teams will want to trade up and pay the price to get him as much as Bradford.

So in the past week, Dez Bryant has run 4.32, 4.52, 4.52, and 4.68 40 times for scouts...

He wont drop past the Patriots, let alone out of the 1st round.

40 times just mean Raiders wont take him, his game speed is still much better than guys Larry Fitz. His eleven foot broad jump is absurd though.
