(2011) Dick of the Year!

They are just gonna end up not doing this award anymore because of posts like this.

I don't know Alexi, and I don't his discussions seem to have sparked some controversy.

But I agree with Thebumwhowalks on this one.

This is supposed to be a tongue in cheek hearty ribbing of fellow posters - good natured fun.

It's not supposed to be a serious attack

Just on this page you can see he's been called an annoying prick, -in-the-bottom, a *****e - and someone bragged 'just rippped him a ' as though this is some 'beat Alexi' challenge thread.

That's natured. That's people who actually the poster.

I just don't think it's neccesarily right for this thread to be dominated by it.

Title says 'Dick of the Year', we name the person we think is the Dick of the Year.

See the smallprint:

This award is pretty much a staple of the Hype! Awards and serves as a GOOD NATURED ribbing! Who do you think is the biggest *******? Who headlines your 'ignore' list? Who acts like a grumpy senior citizen? Which hypester can you see screaming at small children and telling them to "get off the lawn"..?

*Please remember to keep this good natured and fun!

After years of posting in sports forums, I've learned a few things. The most common sight in an internet message board is the rabid fan. You challenge that team or player he holds so dearly & he'll show you his true colors - whether they're civilized or brutally vicious. In the case of my fans in this thread (you know who you are) the reaction was anything but civil. These guys don't wanna "discuss" anything. They want people to come into their favorite threads to do nothing more but blindly support that which they love (in this case the works of Marvel Studios). I don't care if you love the Steelers. In a Super Bowl thread, I'm gonna point out their flaws to you. You can call me every name in the book, it won't make any of the flaws I'm bringing up disappear. Vote me in as "Dick of The Year" if it makes you feel better. Marvel Studios is still a mediocre studio in my eyes, fellas.

The best part about this is juxtaposing it beside your knee-jerk reactions anytime someone says something negative about X-Men or Nolan.

For the millionth time: NO ONE FAULTS YOU FOR YOUR OPINION. It's the way you express it that irks people.

eh, you know, when I expressed my opinion yesterday/the day before on the Marvel studio movies, and wasn't totally positive about them, I encountered sarcasm and flaming insults from posters, including two of the people who have nominated AB.
Now, I can totally see how AB might end up getting into arguments with these people, because there does seem to be a 'shut up and don't criticise the Marvel studios!:cmad:' attitude amongst posters round here. In fact, one guy came in and said that he flamed me because he was tired of seeing me go on about the Marvelstudio films, when i had only expressed that same opinion once before, months ago!
What the hell is going on here?

I seriously had no intent to insult you and looking back at the conversation I can't say I have insulted you as far as I know. But if I did unintentionaly, I deeply apologize.
As for the sarcasm: I tried to turned it off (I usually do while posting on boards, because it's very hard to dose on the internet), but I'm a very sarcastic person. that has nothing to do with you, that was just me.

I thought we had a somewhat (aside from the tiring repetitiveness) good discusion going on, with maybe a couple of misunderstandings on both sides, so I really feel sorry if you experienced it differently.

But a lot of that expirience had probably to do with the way Alexei annoyed the hell out of people there a couple of months ago. They all got very defensive since then. And with him returning yesterday, the timing for a good, sane discussion was maybe the worst.

I made a reply to you in the relevant thread, just a few minutes ago, basically saying that a lot of people have been trying to wind me up in debates to try and get a reaction, so i get myself banned.
So, I am naturally suspicious of any uncalled for wind ups during the course of deabtes when i have been posting nothing but straight opinion.
I mean, it's one thing making a wee sarky gag yourslef during the debate, but a couple of posters teaming up to be sarcastic towards another poster, can easily come across as them trying to make out the poster is stupid by consensus, so they can get an argumentative reaction out of him/her.

Sounds like the Alexie problem is exactly the same as the problem people have with Kurosawa over on the Superman boards TBH.

But after a thousand inane arguements that erupt because of 'the way you said it', don't you just sort of get used to the way a poster is?

The best thing you can do is just try and find some common ground. Something you do agree on.

For instance, in the costume thread Kuro is enemy number 1 most of the time, whereas in Should Superman Kill he is the only person in the whole thread who I think has the exact same opinion as me.

Just knowing that helps keep me grounded when he starts calling the designs on the new MOS suit a tramp stamp, or suggesting people HATE the creators because they are okay with the lack of trunks.

But hey, I think my time on these boards would be quite dull if no one was a dick ever :p

It's fantastic how he presents the situation so that he becomes a 'victim'. Now, everyone who disagrees with his opinions (and the way he expresses them) is a rabid, vicious and brutal (LOL), and we also have, according to him, a 'gang mentality'.
Amazing... There should be a thread for 'hypocrite of the year'.

Aaah, believe me, I know Kurosawa from his time at the Cap Boards (at least I think it was Cap), I know his views and even if I don't share them and he has a very... unique style of discussing, he get's my respect for being a fan of the classics.
AB on the other hand... I never met a person, online or IRL, THAT annoying and constantly putting other people down. I never had the urge to make use of the ignore function until I read his stuff (and he's still the only one I have on that list). He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way and most of the Marvel Studio related boards were a very unpleasant place when he was around. He's on a completely new level of dickishness.
Even The Mayor was banned for less. (Was he banned or did he just leave?)

Actually, when this award was originally done, yeah it was. It wad made to stick it to poster, usually a disliked moderator.

One of the first award ceremonies got shut down because of it.

You all do get everything he does is intentional, right?

He wants to rile you all up, he wants you to talk about him constantly. And when you do, it gives him even more power. He's manipulating you all to feel and act the way he wants you to; angry, irritated and annoyed.

He's playing you all like harps from hell. And it's really quite gloriously done.

Who's that?:)

If only everyone had the courage to ignore those who tempt them into an arguement!

I know I can't, so perhaps it's a very good thing that he doesn't seem to give a hoot about Superman :)

In all honesty, I'm glad this thread exists. It was a perfect way to showcase just how nasty my "supporters" truly are by allowing them to feel safe about flaming me in one collected place rather than in incidents over a thread that gets re-started every 3 days. I'm already used to the utter lack of civility that seems to be mandatory in the Avengers forum, but others that are new to it & that are stepping in with the intention to discuss & debate rather than praise & worship can use this as a warning to what happens when you say something negative about Marvel Studios & Kevin Feige.

You know, I actually tried that once. He ignores that kind of stuff.

Perhaps we should create a Troll of the Year category specifically for him, since it's apparent that he's doing all of this on purpose.

I dunno... Wouldn't that be 'feeding the trolls'?

That seems to be frowned upon :p

Doesn't this count as campaigning for yourself?

You shouldn't be posting in this thread, Alexei. The gang is all here, and we're a vicious bunch.

No, this is me (as usual) doing my best to remind people that posters like you & all your buddies that have treated me so gallantly, are what ruins the online debate experience. People that don't have an ounce of respect in their bodies & use situations like message boards to embrace their own personal rage & sadism. There isn't a doubt in my mind that there is no arena for you other than this one where you can behave the way you do without any real consequence. But keep up the good work, kingmatte, keep making the Hype a cold & nasty place where people can continue to be flamed into submission, or in my case - stoned for disliking the direction Feige has taken with the post-Iron Man MCU films.

Ok, i just voted for Alexei in the 'It boy' category after reading this post, because either ...

A. he is getting far too much of the sharp end of the stick here, and doesn't deserve the trolling in here, so for a bit of karma, I'll give him a positive nom.

or B. He is some kind of master planner, like you say.

I know who i want to vote for dick of the year now, but im not gonna, :oldrazz: he doesn't deserve the noteriety.

1) You can leave a category blank.

2) Throwing a pity vote to someone in a nomination thread where they take the top 3 and put it on the ballot, just to prove a point seems silly.

3) Throwing a pity vote not knowing really too much outside this thread seems silly.

Erzy baby, think about what the term 'It Boy' means, it means 'THE GUY' of the forum, according to the OP. Now, i have had one nom myself in the category, and we all know that i qualify, and Alexei also qualifies, just look at the amount of people talking about him, whether it is positive or negative, the guy most certainly has made an impact on the forum.
It's not a pity vote, I wanted some karma too, sure, but i would not have voted for him if he didn't qualify for the term.
