2014 NFL thread: Down and Dirty - Part 1

It looks like the NFL is trying to sweep this under the rug with now suddenly making progress on a new Drug Policy

How convenient for the NFL.

Personally, I would be very surprised if Goodell resigns or gets fired over this. I don't see him doing the honorable thing and resigning (after all, why start being "honorable" now?). Also, the majority of the owners love him so I don't see them firing him. I think he weathers the storm and keeps his job...unfortunately.

It is my belief that the NFL knew of the full video, they just hoped it wouldn't end up in view of the public.

Now that it has, the league is trying like mad to cover its collective butt.

Hey diddle diddle.

Are you going to finish that McGriddle?

:drops mic:

Just when I think stats can't get any wackier, I see this about Atlanta's kicker.

Well, it was pretty great.

So Roger & Co either saw the tape but ignored it & just hope it would not get out

Or Roger & Co knew the tape existed & did not bother asking for it & did not care to watch it

Now it is very possible the NFL did not see the video. But knew it existed. They are also saying Ray Rice & Lawyer had a copy of the video or the video itself. The NFL should have done more to get their hands on that video before the two game suspension. Threatening more suspension time for Ray Rice until they see that video should have done the trick. They just did not care

I am so happy football is back on my tv! :yay:

I'm also glad that Ray Rice is out of a job. There should be no tolerance for that type of behavior. If anyone in this thread did that we would be in jail right now.

I think the thing that is getting lost here in all this is how domestic abuse has taken center stage and the nfl cover ups is the fact that a family is destroyed. How can Rice's little girl ever grow up now normally atleast for the next few years and go out to events for her school and have mom and dad there without bringing some type of negative attention. If your Janay Rice and your family sees this tape after you have married this man, how does that not cause friction for the rest of that families life? I understand the media is blowing this way out of proportion because its the NFL and its a top tier talent but my god that has happened in the past and plenty of other worse things with other players why cant we just let Ray and his family work through this in private? The media got its wish and he is out of the league now let the family work through this and stop bringing them up as the poster children for domestic abuse. Its gotten to the point now that Janay had to take to instagram to plead for people to stop essentially and she was the one who got punched. Bottom line the media is out of control and weilds too much power that they have no idea how to use properly.

I still cannot believe that she actually married him.

Im never glad when someone looses there lively hood of earning because who am I to decide if someone can or cant earn there money in life but at the same time the choices we make are ours to bare and Ray ruined his legacy in 2 minutes of video. Do I believe this was a one time incident? No because for all we know they could have had physical altercations in the past and we just happened to get a glimpse of it. But the fact remains the man and his wife both need help because correct me if Im wrong but they both threw punches at each other in that video and I applaud both for recogninzing they needed couples counseling and hope the best for them on there road to recovery. If she chooses to stay with him after all this then that is her business and no one reserves the right to tell her otherwise despite what public perception is.

Thank you, that's what I've been wondering.

Plus, as Tony Kornheiser was discussing this morning, there seems to be no remorse from Rice in that video at all. There's always cases of domestic violence being discussed, but there's always that moment of, "What the hell did I just do?" by either the husband or wife.

Instead, Rice was shoving her around, trying to get her up when he realized how badly he's about to get screwed (when the elevator doors opened).

I have no tolerance for any man that would lay his hands on a woman like that. I realize that she slapped him or whatever but there is no excuse for any man to do that. (Unless his life is clearly in danger.)

Same here. But the same people who want ray's head for this are the same people who download Chris browns music and he darn near killed Rihanna and we all saw the horrific photos of his work. See where I'm going with this? Or the woman who beat up jay z in the elevator and that scenario brought in jokes, where was the out cry there? Or is it acceptable for a women to be able to beat up a man and get away with it? I don't have tolerance for Women who put there hands on a man ethier.

And they never caught Biggie's or Tupac's killer.

I'll have significantly less sympathy for her when he knocks the crap out of her in the future. Sorry, but it's just stupidity on her part after he damn near killed her.

The main story here isn't what Ray Rice did but how the league, commissioner and team all turned their heads in the other direction when the original news broke. Now the public found out about it and are reacting the way we expected the NFL to react in the first place but did not.

For all we know, Ray Rice could have been turning his life around considering this happened 8 months ago.

Women should not put their hands on men in this way either. I definitely do not have the highest opinion of his wife either. I can understand the whole "battered wife" mentality but someone should've stopped that marriage.

No the main story is still what Ray Rice did. The others deserve lots of criticism but don't get it twisted. They aren't the ones who threw a vicious left hook at a woman that could have been fatal.

Infinitely more blame still goes to Rice.

The new video SHOULD be moot. Chris Mortensen has said repeatedly that he was told exactly what happened 3 months ago from an inside source (whether because Rice recounted it, or because they indeed did have the video). So at the point they made their decision they knew exactly what had happened. You shouldn't need visceral video evidence to make a smart decision here. The decision SHOULD have been the same regardless of the video being leaked.

anybody that watched the Seahawks/Packers game and listened to the post game show afterwards heard them say they think what I think. That the Seahawks will not only go to the superbowl this year, they will go undefeated as well.

I'm really impressed by them both for saying that since you would think Harrison being an AFC guy who played for the chargers and patriots, that you would think he would be biased and pick the patriots to do that but he didnt.kudos for him being objective and not biased on this.

and to Tony Dungy as well. You would have thought that he would have picked the donkeys to do it because of his friendship with Manning but he did not do that.Got to be very impressed with that.

They are using logic and being objective.Tony Gonzalez has had one too many concussions from playing the game because HE actually thinks the donkeys will go undefeated and win the superbowl.:whatever::woot:

then there is Randy Moss who is obviously smoking weed again in the fact he thinks his patriots will win the superbowl.:woot:

so you really need to be impressed by Harrison and Dungy thinking with their minds instead of their hearts. I know I sure am.

Hey General manager of The Lambs in saint louis.I saw on the nightly sports news the other day that your backup quarterback who was starting in place of Sam Bradford who is out for the season, that he is now hurt and that you dont even have a backup to your third string quarterback who is now playing. I hear Kurt Warner is avaible.:woot: you still have his phone number right?

Couldn't you have just posted this in the NFL thread instead of creating a new one?

Dealing with it in private is probably what got her knocked unconscious in an elevator.

Notice how he didn't lay a hand on her until that door closed?

Sometimes, not always, people need help. Should we still be talking about this particular couple a week from now? No. Ray Rice isn't the only man to ever lay his hands on a woman.

But letting this just slip into the shadows 12 hours later won't help Janay either.

Hopefully, now that she understands that Ray Rice's true face is public. She won't be able to look at him the same cause no one around him looks at him the same.

Trust me. She's trying to protect his image as a good man above her own safety.

It's not acceptable for anyone to lay a hand on anyone else, but let's not be crazy.

Getting into tiff with Gina Carano isn't going to read the same as 99% of other women.

This dude makes a living running through bodies of 300 plus pounds.

His best response to being slapped is to backhand a women into a wall? He put her down like an animal. The "fight" didn't even escalate from furious slaps to "oh, wait what have I done?"
