2014 NFL thread: Down and Dirty - Part 1

Man, if the NFL has had the inside elevator tapes since April and then ruled on the two game suspension as well as trying to cover up any evidence of having that tape heads in the organization are going to roll. Olberman cited 3 guys that should be held responsible, as well as the legal heads that worked over the case. If the Ravens organization knew as well that this tape existed or saw it themselves and didn't take any further action towards Rice, they too deserve to be ousted as well in my opinion.

I keep hearing the phrase that all this action didn't take place because they saw the tape, its because *we* saw the tape. It really does seem to be the case now. It's truly disgusting how this entire process has been handled if they actually saw and had the tape since April. Even knowing this tape was out there and not providing a harsher penalty is wrong.

I dont know that I see the NFL getting out of this without looking terrible and jobs being lost.

I think this could turn out to be NFL's own "Watergate", in that it might eventually oust Goodell out as Commissioner if he either lied and concealed the truth, or his subordinates did a cover-up and he didn't find out about it (the elevator tape) until TMZ leaked the footage. Either way, I don't think it will end well for the Commish.

On knowledge alone that there was a recording of the event the punishment should have been more stringent in my opinion. But if all parties involved in the process had access to the video itself (which more and more seems to be the case of late) and then made the decisions as we saw them play out then I feel no remorse for anyone who loses a job.

Man, it looks like fans and the media will come after Hardy next... hard, and that blows considering he'll likely be found innocent in a trial by his peers. In retrospect, it was a very bad move to go with a bench trial.

That said, his case could also represent the other side of the coin when arriving to domestic violence claims.

People aren't going to go after Hardy or MacDonald if theyre found innocent, this Rice situation is different because he actually did do it and it was caught on tape. If Hardy is found to have done it, then he's a scumbag and deserves all the punishment and hate in the world. But if he's found innocent, rational people aren't going to condemn him.

Hardy's court date isn't until November. I doubt he'll make another week. People are in witch hunt mode and Hardy is next in their sights. ESPN is already pressing hard for Jerry Richardson to suspend him. I don't know if he'll give in but it isn't looking good. Greg deserves to present the evidence he has and be cleared of these charges without forever being labeled a woman beater. That said, it may already be too late.

If he's guilty, then he deserves the same fate as Ray Rice. I don't care if Hardy is a first time offender.

Actually, Greg was judged unfairly but I'm assuming since you're not a Panther fan, you haven't paid close attention to the case details. So why bother...

Go on. I am willing to hear you out. If you have any articles to link to, that would be great. Though I don't think being a Panther fan adds an unbiased layer to one's view. What was his reasoning to go with a bench trial?

Exactly. Being a fan of something doesn't offer an unbiased perspective, be it sports or comics. By definition of being a fan, you have a stake in the ultimate outcome. Someone unattached to a team/property wouldn't. Thus, they would be more objective.

Don't get me wrong, when news first broke out that Hardy was arrested for domestic violence our fan base (including me) wasn't exactly welcoming. 95% of us wanted Greg cut and banished from our records immediately. A couple months later, a ton of details have come to light and it's looking more and more that Hardy might actually be innocent. For instance, the chick has now dropped her second attorney (hired a third one) and refused to attend court.

Hardy and his attorneys thought it would be a slam dunk to undergo a bench trial but it turned out that the judge (who was a woman by the way) was just looking to make an example out of him. After all, Ray Rice was recently in the headlines. Greg wasn't allowed to present his evidence at all.

In addition, respected journalists such as Voth and Jones from the area who cover our team have criticized the guilty verdict for being so brief and unjustly. Let's just say that the North Carolina justice system is on par with Florida.

Which is also true. But, my point is more knowledge doesn't always lead to cooler heads or an unbiased view. People can decide to manipulate whatever information they want into being something that justifies their view. I am not saying DoomsdayApex is doing that. I'm just saying the generalization that more info = less bias is faulty. Especially given how rabid football fans can be.

Of course it is. True, false. These need to be taken in a case by case bias, as this is the perfect chance to come around looking for a settlement.
