2014 NFL thread: The Final Battle

I'd rather a trained stage performer do it than the usual pop artist who is the flavor of the year.

It's literally like 2 minutes of the pre-game. I wouldnt care if Howard Stern got up and farted the Anthem. It's a silly tradition anyway.

Cowboys fans were pretty amazed anyone could make that claim. Jerry Jones was wondering why they took that massive hit to the salary cap a few years back if the NFL was trying to "help them win".

So the claim is, "The NFL helps the Cowboys win....except when they don't". So the league wants the ratings one week...then stops caring about ratings? (the Cowboys always mean bigger ratings)

That certainly leaves fans a lot of latitude! Can't ever be wrong.

I said that was a foolish notion for more than a one off already. You dont need to keep addressing it. Dallas and Green bay are on equal footing on the national level in terms of TV audience. It really didnt matter who got through to Seattle at that point. Are you going to argue that the NFL doesnt like seeing it's darling franchises in meaningful games?

It even worked for the Dallas/Detroit game. The league was "helping the Cowboys win" on one play. That allowed fans to ignore all the calls that went against the Cowboys in that game which helped put them behind in the first place. Running into the kicker...easy to ignore if you want to "help the Cowboys win". Take a touchdown off the board with a penalty against the Cowboys?...that didn't seem too "helpful". Shouldn't they have called this one to negate a TD for the Lions if they wanted that Dallas/Green Bay game?

ZOMG! You found an uncalled holding penalty on an NFL play! This is unprecedented! Someone alert the White House!

Now I want you to imagine that the flag was thrown on this play and then picked up with the ref saying there was no holding. Then it might be similar.

It's really the same thing. A complaint about the way a play is interpreted. One play fans think it should have been interference, the other fans think it should have been a catch.

except the fact that one was actually called interference and then magically changed, and then had the NFL admit they blew the call, whereas the other was reviewed on video by the refs and overturned with an explanation and the NFL backing it up. Yup, samesies.

I think the official had every right to view the play the way he did in Lions/Cowboys. He must have noticed the receiver holding the defender's facemask...which did not allow the defender to turn to see the ball....which of course meant he would make contact when the receiver came to a dead stop to try and catch a badly underthrown ball. No other option for any defender there. At some point you gotta let them play.

Pettigrew never grabbed a hold of the defender's facemask, you need to let go of that fallacy. And even if he did, then it's offsetting penalties and replay the down.

At no point can under any iteration of the rules can you look at that sequence of events and say "derp gotta let 'em play, derp" This only passed for an explanation if you're some deluded Dallas fan.

Should Cowboys fans have the right to complain about this?

Report: NFL tells Dallas Cowboys they missed 7 penalty calls against Detroit Lions

No, as I mentioned at least the other 3 times you posted this link, you can review game tape and find a penalty and missed call on every play. The PI on Pettigrew wasnt missed, it was seen and called..and then uncalled..and then the league admitted the decision was wrong. The two dont equate. I'm growing tired of repeating this.

Surely SOMEONE has photoshopped a picture of Cap wearing a Patriots jersey by now.

Anyone?

I was sorry to see Mike Smith go, but now I'm even sorrier to see him go to a hell hole like Oakland.

Its a tradition I and millions of other Americans car a great deal about. I'd rather have it sang by a singer like Menzel than someone else. You can have your flatuence ridden cover I prefer to hear it sung well.

Rex Ryan-Buffalo Bills.
Todd Bowles- New York Jets.
Jack Del Rio-Oakland Raiders.
Jim Tomsula-San Francisco 49ers.
John Fox-Chicago Bears.

My heart wants a PACKERS-COLTS SB.
But my head is telling its going to be New England(YAWN) and Seattle.

I think the Colts have a better chance than the Packers.

Packers O-Line needs to be pretty much immaculate, and Aaron Rodgers finish the game upright and in one piece for a chance to win this one...

Not impossible, since the Packers O-Line ARE in prime form right now... but it's not something I'd want to bet on.

Yeah I want a packers-colts SB has packers are my team and I cant stand new England and I don't want to have to hear about Brady more and more. But I think it will be seattle and pats.

John Fox could become the first head coach in history to reach three Super Bowls with three different teams if he goes with the Bears.

I love the Raiders signing of Jack Del Rio. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. After all, he was the last one to lead the Jaguars to the playoffs. :o
No but seriously, I hope he turns the Raiders around.

He is gonna need a lot of help to turn that franchise around.

The Raiders have a decent team lurking in the shadows. Especially that defense. If Mike Smith comes aboard, look for them to be much better. When Smith was DC of Jacksonville from 2003-2007, they were never lower than 12th in total defense and was as high as 2nd in total defense in 2006.

I think their offense is what needs tuned up, but don't be surprised if they go with a DE/OLB in the draft.

They certainly need a franchise QB finally.

Hahahahaha... ahhh.

No. No he could not.

Are you saying he won't or are you telling me that I'm wrong? I don't believe there's been a head coach that has been to the Super Bowl with 3 different teams. I may have overlooked something.

He is saying the Bears will continue to suck.

Well, I suppose "technically" he could, like the possibility that as long as he's alive Steven Hawking could technically still run a four minute mile at some point. But realistically...

Of the two things mentioned...

I'd say Hawking better get himself a better pair of running shoes...

:lmao:

I take it you're a Bears fan? No faith in Fox? Took a 1-15 Panthers team and brought them to the Super Bowl 2 years later. I also wouldn't put the blame on him for the Broncos latest outing. Manning was playing like ****. He's a lot better hire than some of the coaches out there.

Packers fan with very little faith in the Bears management to do what it takes to put a potential contender in front of Fox.
