The story sees the five women banding together, overcoming their suspicions and conflicts, to use all their considerable talents and training to stop a global organization from acquiring a weapon that could thrust the teetering world into total chaos. Along the way, these strangers and enemies become comrades and friends, and a new faction is formed – code-named “355” (a name they adopt from the first female spy in the American Revolution).

This could be an interesting franchise. Like Danger Girl for grownups.

Great cast, it'll be interesting to see how this develops.

Some good names there. Will watch news of this with interest...

At the risk of being crude....

I was almost thinking this was some kind of Y: The Last Man spin-off.

This should be successful. Kinberg is good at making movies with a lot of action that seem smarter than they actually are, Chastain has good instincts and has experience being the pivot of an action movie, Fan Bingbing will ensure this movie makes a ton of money from China, and the rest of the cast adds credibility among the film snob crowd.

Universal Closes $20M+ U.S. Deal For Star-Studded Spy Sisterhood Thriller ‘355: http://deadline.com/2018/05/universal-pictures-355-cannes-jessica-chastain-marion-cotillard-penelope-cruz-fan-bingbing-lupita-nyongo-simon-kinberg-1202388471/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter …

Universal has beaten out multiple bidders to take U.S. rights on 355, the Simon Kinberg-directed global spy thriller franchise that will star Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Fan Bingbing and Lupita Nyong’o. Deal is north of $20 million, with the promise of a wide release. Now, other deals for international territories will follow that will make this one of the biggest Cannes Market packages in memory. The film will be budgeted at around $100 million sources said.

Ohdear its Kinberg again. At least the script is written by someone else and the cast is stellar.

I bet chastain turns out to be a traitor. I’ve just got a feeling.

I mean her character not jess herself

Sebastian Stan and Edgar Ramirez Join '355'
Marion Cotillard is out of the female-fronted spy film

Sebastian Stan, whose credits include “Avengers: Endgame” and “I Tonya,” and Edgar Ramirez, who has featured in “Gold,” “Assassination of Gianni Versace” and “Joy,” have joined the cast of Jessica Chastain’s spy thriller “355.”

Stan and Ramirez join the previously announced cast of Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz and Fan Bingbing. Simon Kinberg directs; the screenwriter is Theresa Rebeck from NBC’s “Smash” and the play “Dead Accounts.”

“355,” which begins principal photography on July 8 in Paris and also shoots in London and Morocco, was the biggest sale of last year’s Cannes with Universal acquiring U.S. distribution rights. CAA Film Finance brokered the deal with Film Nation handling international sales. The movie is produced by Freckle Films’ Chastain and Kelly Carmichael, alongside Kinberg’s Kinberg Genre.

And Production Weekly has Roger Deakins listed as the cinematographer for this film.

'Dark Phoenix' Filmmaker Simon Kinberg on Its Box Office Failure: "That's on Me"

Kinberg will be involved in reshoots for the long-delayed New Mutants, which has an April 2020 release date, and he is leaving next week to work on Universal's 355, which will be his next directorial effort.

I’d be surprised if he were removed from the film.

His production shingle (Chastain's co. is also working on it) is footing the bill (Universal only bid for the US rights). He's one of the reasons this is getting made in the first place and there's actually no one who can fire him since he's the boss here.

Chastain tweeted this back in February and Sebastian Stan & Edgar Ramirez aren't bond boys (yet!) so maybe this is still on the table :thf:
