What should I buy once my money comes in? For a while, I was pretty sure I would get a Wii. But playing the 360 at my friends house, having him go on and on about it, and seeing the games that are coming out - I'm really thinking twice.
I'll go through the benifets and downsides of each console.
Xbox 360 - Benefits...
More power and more graphics. Gears Of War looks very cinematic at points. This console has the potential for spectacular looking games.
Games that are coming out, like Mass Effect and Bioshock and Assasins Creed look amazing.
Games that were exclusive for the PS3 are coming out for the 360. At this point in time, I could never seriously entertain the idea of getting the overpriced piece of junk that is the PS3.
Online play. I have little doubt that online playing will be superior on the 360.
The 360 is a genuine next generation console.
Downfalls...
The 360 is more expensive than the Wii. The games are also more expensive. With the 360, I won't be able to wave the controller around and point at stuff.
The Wii. Benifets...
A kickass new controller that seems to have alot of potential. Alot of interesting things can be done with the Wii-mote.
Games - Zelda. Zelda Zelda Zelda. It got ten out of ten and 9 out of ten all over the place. I'm a Zelda fan, and I know that this one will be the best one. It looks so much more epic, there seems to be so much more to do. Zelda is the type of game you buy a console to play.
Online play. Some games will feature being able to play your friends across an Internet connection. But will this be as good an experience as the 360 can offer?
Downfalls...
Compared to the 360, the Wii is an underpowered console. Let me make something straight, something that has been bugging me when I read forums. This generation is NOT about graphics vs innovation. It's not as simple as that. The 360 doesn't simply offer prettier games. The 360 has the potential to make games much bigger, much more atmospheric, much more realistic, much more interactive, and more than ever before. It opens up the potential to see things we haven't seen in games before. Take Mass Effect, for example. It looks so damn cool. It's cinematic. You travel about on a spaceship that you are the captain of, exploring a galaxy.
Nintendo make great games. But I do at this point feel like I'm playing the same thing over and over again. Zelda. Metroid. Mario. I love Metroid, but I don't even know if I'd buy the new one even if I had the Wii. It just looks like the same old same old. Whereas the 360 offers a wider selection of games. Admittedly, the 360 has been around a little longer to build up a selection. But look at the games that are coming out for the Wii. Like Far Cry. At first I was excited about Far Cry. But I looked at some clips... and it looks ugly. Seriously, it looks like an N64 game.
So I'm thinking... I buy a 360 now. And a year from now, when/if the Wii has a better selection of games and more impressive games 'cause seriously the games it has now don't look that great, then I'll buy the Wii. What do you think?
