Hey all, I have been having this problem since I got my first 360. I cannot seem to stop my 360 from destroying all my games. At first I thought it must have been a console defect, so I exchanged it with my warranty, but now my new one does the same thing. It continually scratches my games untill they're unplayable. Any suggestions or idea's?

That's weird.
I've played the hell out of CoD2 and it's so shiny and new
Everyone of my games is, really.

My advice is: Your 360 shouldn't do that.

i dont own one, but i heard if u got it standing upright it does that, keep it flat i guess.

Mine hasnt done that with any game. I have heared about this before when the console was released but the 360 was scratching discs when it was titled while having a game inside. Turning it from horizontal to vertical position (or the oppossite) while the game runs.

I havent heared anything about the 360 just scratching disc when you dont move it while its running.

My system's been sitting next to my TV, vertically, since I got it on launch day. I've not had a single problem with anything, including discs being scratched.

This may seem like a dumb question, but, do you move your system around much while there's a game inside it (even when it's turned off)? That's got to be the #1 reason why anyone's discs are being damaged by the system.

A little bit when it's turned off, never when it's on, though. Do you're discs even have minor scratches?

Out of curiosity, I just checked all of my 360 games before I post this. Out of the 10 discs I have, only Oblivion and GRAW have anything on them, and those have very very small blemishes on them, which I see on any of my DVDs and CDs. Oblivion and GRAW, btw, are most definitely my most-played games out of all that I own so far. There's not a single scratch on any of my discs that would not consider normal wear & tear.

Okay, thanks. Someone over at IGN told me my disc tray could be screwed up, and the the most common reason for that is putting already scratched discs in your 360. I kinda find that BS, because that would mean getting used games would be a 360 death wish.

Hey. I just bought an Xbox 360 and have put it away for Christmas and after visiting some forums I'm VERY concerned about what's gonna happen Christmas day when I turn it on.

I've read reports of overheating and disk scratching. Some say put the console horizontal to avoid scratching and others say it'll overheat if it's horizontal. What should I do?? I plan on putting it on a solid surface next to my tv with plenty of space for ventilation. Obviously I'm not gonna move the console with the game in it(which many have said is the reason for scratching).

I've heard bad things about seperate cooling fans too. I think I might put the console vertical to allow maximum ventilation but I really hope it doesn't scratch games/DVDs as a result!!

Any advice would be appreciated! Which way do mosrt people here have their console - vertical/horizontal?

There just trying to scare you. Just make sure you have at least one year warranty on your 360 put it in a place where it would most likely to get overheated like an oven;)

I think I'll put it horizontal, just to be safe. I'll raise it sllightly from the table surface to allow for better ventilation but I don't wanna risk putting it vertical, scratching discs and dvds.

Where did you buy the game?
I work at EB, if you get ring around the edge, that means you've moved you 360 while it's on.
If you got it at EB or Gamestop, they should replace it.

couple of tips to keep your 360 safe:
1. keep horizontally on a even and ventilated surface
2. dont put on carpet (xbox or powerbrick)
3. dont keep close to sound system (speakers) because that will cause your 360 to move and thats how the ring is created

hope this helps

i wanna keep it vertical though. :csad:

when i get my 360, i'll just have to make room.

I had Marvel Ultimate Alliance running on the 360. It is on a shelf. It is not vertical. I never moved it and I have circular gashes made by my 360 on the disk.

I've had mine vertical, right next to a speaker, with the power brick on carpet since the first day it came out. It hasn't scratched any disks at all, or had any problems with over-heating...I've had a few lock ups, but clearing the cache fixed them on most games, I blame the rest on bugs in the actual games seeing as it only happens in Superman Returns anymore

Same with me. I've had my 360 vertical since day 1 and it's never scratched any of my games.

I've scratched up a few dvds i nmy PS2 when it got knocked over by an accident.

::cries::

Take your games to one of those DVD stores, most of them have a cleaner that will remove the scratches and fix your game. It's pretty inexpensive only 'bout five bucks. Simply take advantage of that warranty and get another, and another if you have to.

i'm scared this is a big problem.

maybe i should get a warranty when i get my 360.

The screen of death almost scared me out of a 360 when I heard 'bout it on G4 tech tv. I think microsoft will take care of the problem

The "screen of death" almost scared me off of the 360. But I think that Microsoft will take care of the problem.:yay:
