360 version left 4 dead

I did that one time and the zombies appeared in that locker room behind me. :(

The Source engine is showing its age a little bit, but personally, I don't think anybody does facial rendering better than Valve. Between L4D and HL2, I don't think I've seen game characters show as much emotion in their expressions anywhere else.

Not bad for a game engine that came out, what? 2004. Also ran on a wide range of machine at the time it came out unlike the Cryengine. TF2 has excellent facial expressions also.

Picked up my copy can't wait to play it after class tonight.

So is it a rental, or worth the pick-up? Let me know, because i'm looking for new games to play online. Thanks.

I think it's worth a buy. Personally, I can see myself playing through the campaign a lot. Co-op is the best kind of multiplayer, and hordes of infected undead are a great enemy to fight with friends.

my review of l4d:

okay, so a apocalyptic zombie game where you are given guns and sent on missions to safety, sounds like fun right? yes left 4 dead is very fun, but let's get real here. you're shelling out $59.99 on a game that has no story whatsoever. in each mini campaign you have an objective to get to safety, and usually each campaign on easy through normal takes about twenty minutes. there is no story at all, no character development, no answers as to when the infection happened, how it happened, or where these people came from. you are given a very small amount of weapons, you have the choice of an assault rifle, a shotgun, a sniper rifle, a submachine gun, and a pistol. and on the other hand you can choose between a moltov cocktail, or a pipe bomb. now onto online multiplayer, you'd think there'd maybe be a map where you fight the other team as zombies, no. the online multiplayer is campaign, that is it, you are repeating the campaign exactly except a few infected zombies are actual people. I don't want to say this game is a huge letdown, it's just the idea of an apocalyptic zombie game gives me more expectations, valve did okay but they didn't deliver the real deal of what I (and I'm guessing many others) expected. overall, this is a strong rental game, I just don't see it as a buy.

1. That's why playing on Advanced and Expert is awesome. There's a reason why it only takes 20 minutes to get through an Easy campaign. It's because it's Easy.

2. It really wouldn't be much of a challenge if you had a bazooka.

3. Yes there is, it's in the Versus mode. Each time you spawn, you're a different Boss Infected and you get to pick where you spawn so you can surprise attack the survivors.

4. The way the engine is built, the spawn points and the amount of zombies change each time you play. Especially on different difficulties. Plus, you need it to play online, which is really where it's at.

lets real here. you're shelling out $59.99

There's value.

$59.99 on a game that has no story whatsoever.

Neither does Battlefield 2, Unreal Tournament or Quake 3.

on easy through normal takes about twenty minutes.

Like the other fellow said.

there is no story

You already said that.

maybe be a map where you fight the other team as zombies, no.

Yes.

you are repeating the campaign

That's the point.

No.

AI and the Director

The artificial intelligence of Left 4 Dead features a dynamic system for game dramatics, pacing, and difficulty called "The Director." Instead of fixed spawn points for enemies, the Director places enemies and items in varying positions and quantities based upon each player's current situation, status, skill and location, creating a new experience for each play through.[8] The Director also creates mood and tension with emotional cues, such as visual effects, dynamic music, and character communication.[9] Valve has termed this dynamic set-up "procedural narrative."[16]

In addition to the AI Director, there is a second Director that controls music. It was created as a way to keep the music interesting throughout the game. The music Director monitors what a player has experienced to create an appropriate mix. The process is client-side and done by a multi-track system. Each player hears their own mix, which is being generated as they play through the game, and dead players watching a teammate hear their teammates' mix.

Shooting zombies?

they didn't deliver the real deal of what I (and I'm guessing many others) expected.

Most seemed pleased from what I seen.

Just got this through gamefly yesterday and it's a blast to play online with people. For sure worth a rental at least. Plus the difficulty levels really make a difference, I mean they take like an hour when you're on normal, I can only imagine how crazy it gets at the higher levels.
GT: xxxroorxxx if anyone feels like playing.

Be prepared to replay parts of the campaign a lot when you're starting out on expert. :)

Yeah first time I tried Expert, I was like "Ahhh......****." Expert is definitely not a good setting to play with the AI. You really need 3 other actual people keeping up.

I'll add you later tonight. My GT is Geraci FTW.

Hopefully you get 3 of the people who aren't jerks. I've found there are a lot more jerks who'll just leave your ass to die on expert than there are on any other setting. Right now I tend to play one game on expert, get sick of it, and then compromise with advanced.

Iv almost completely quit playing with people i dont know, not just in this game, but every game. I try to play with at least one person i know.

I've only played the campaign with friends (I work at Best Buy, which is fully staffed by fellow geeks so I never have a hard time finding someone to play with). I could imagine it being horrible playing it with random people on Live. I noticed in Versus mode that no one ever sticks together so I'm sure it's like that on Campaign too.

Yeah, people will leave you behind sometimes, but usually they'll tell you they're planning to rush before they actually do, so you'll have a chance to keep up.

Only when you turn a corner and his flabby ass is right there. Other than that, it's relatively easy to pick him off before he gets close enough to do anything--or at least to move out of the way so one of your allies gets puked on instead of you.

My friend's little sister has the game, and I finally was able to play it.. and man, it's friggin awesome. The gameplay is everything I wanted Dead Rising to be. Mix fast zombie swarms with free-roam surivival, and that'd be the perfect zombie apocalypse game.

So I'm playing it the first time yesterday. I'm on no mercy and i get down to the street. "Car alarms... blah blah blah". I really should read it better. I was getting attacked by a few so I didn't pay attention. I read it as "They don't like car alarms", and I interpreted it as it will make them go away. First thing I do, shoot the car with the "do not shoot" sign on it.

What a noob mistake

I love shooting the car alarms with first time players. Their reactions are priceless :woot:

Anyone liking Versus mode more than Campaign? Although Blood Harvest on Versus is very difficult.

I do. Cause as the survivors versus and campaign are similar. You just get to the safe rooms. But in versus you can play as the infected. And how come everytime i play versus its no mercy. Is that just a coincidence? I just started figuring all versus matches were no mercy. I didn't know you could play blood harvest

I like the game and I know it's intentional, but I wish they made the story more involving and the gameplay less... repetitive.

lol
i know what you mean... the first maybe month i thought every match started off at no mercy then you had to continue with the party to play blood harvest. I didnt realize you could start at blood harvest.
