3D Tarzan

Featuring a screenplay by Stephen Sommers and Stuart Beattie, the live action Warner Bros. project will adapt Burrough's 1912 book "Tarzan of the Apes."

So it's based on the first story now, not this:

Skarsgård would play John Clayton III, known around the world as the famous “ape man” Tarzan. Years after he’s re-assimilated into society, he’s asked by Queen Victoria to investigate the goings-on in the Congo. Tarzan teams with an ex-mercenary named George Washington Williams to save the Congo from a fierce warlord who controls a massive diamond mine.

Samuel L. Jackson is being eyed to play Williams, a Civil War veteran eager to redeem himself for his part in the massacre of Native Americans.

I think it would work better if they just skip "Tarzan of the Apes" and make something original. They would probably change too much anyway. The first book is really good, but not that action-packed, and I don't see how they can include Tarzan tormenting black people in it. Besides, most people know Tarzan's origin from Disney's Tarzan (even though they made some changes. The apes, Clayton and stuff like that), and the Christopher Lambert movie.

Just have some flashbacks from the first book, and take some elements from the others. Throw some dinosaurs and lost cities in it, and you'll have a winner:word: now that Jurassic World is coming, people would probably love to see giant lizards again.

I was always disappointed that there was no continuation on from Greystoke. That movie got everything just right IMO!

It's a beautiful movie:yay: there are some changes from the novel, though.

The worst Tarzan movie I have ever seen must be Tarzan the Fearless, with Buster Crabbe. It's a serial edited into a feature film... Horrible. I almost fell asleep:csad: Tarzan is almost wearing a thong in it, and he's the biggest wimp ever.

Tarzan's Revenge is on the same DVD. It's not very good, but it's more entertaining than the other one. Hadn't it been for that movie, it would have been one of my worst purchases ever. And I'll probably watch "The New Adventures of Tarzan" soon, a serial with Herman Brix as Tarzan. Hope it's better than the horrible Crabbe serial:woot:

By the way; Has anybody here listened to the Tarzan radio show from 1951? It's one of the best radio shows ever:woot: I almost laughed the first time I heard Tarzan's voice...he's so manly.

Is this the big movie opening July 4 weekend? Seems pretty weak that a bigger tentpole could easily outdo it.

Tarzan is one of my favorie characters, but I have no faith at all in this production. Hopefully it proves me wrong.

For my money "Tarzan's Greatest Adventure" is the best Tarzan film to date. "Tarzan Triumphs" tho is my all time favorite........
"Now,Tarzan make war!"

Tarzan Triumphs is awesome:woot: but Tarzan's Desert Mystery is my favorite Weissmuller movie, because:

giant spiders, dinosaurs and carnivorous plants

As long it's not a CGI fest, I'm down.

It's weird how WB is handling their future tentpoles; based on classic stories with a 'twist'. Hopefully these new takes won't be 'rad'.

I hope that this film is more like Greystoke than most of the other Tarzan films. I was not happy when they decided not to continue with a series of Tarzan movies with Christopher Lambert.

Meh, sounds like a typecast type of role for Hounsou :( .

Just curious, is this a period piece or will it be set in modern day?

Edgar Rice Burroughs fans should be happy. His work is still getting adapted even after John Carter.

Warners' "Tarzan" More Sequel Than Origin Tale

By Garth Franklin Wednesday July 16th 2014 12:07PM
Warner Bros. Pictures have released a new official synopsis for David Yates' upcoming "Tarzan" film featuring "True Blood" hunk Alexander Skarsgard as the king of the jungle himself.
Interestingly though, the synopsis confirms they're opting for a different approach to previous adaptations of the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel - this one serving as kind of a sequel rather than an origin story:
"It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgard) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Margot Robbie) at his side.
Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash."
Tarzan is currently shooting on stages at Leavesden Studios in the UK, ahead of location shooting around England and Wales.

I think it'll be in the vein of WB's Sherlock.

Anyway, 'Leon Rom'…what a name!

Holy COW, Leon Rom was a real person, and was the inspiration for Kurtz in 'Heart of Darkness' (which was adapted into Apocalypse Now)

Rom was known to keep severed heads of Africans in his flower bed, and kept a gallows permanently in place at his station. Under his leadership, agents were known to kill African subjects for minor offenses.[1]

BTW, I don't think there was another 'Tarzan' thread for the actual Warner Bros film by David Yates, just this CGI one (which just kinda exists).

Yes it has:

Looks like they're doing test screenings already

@davidjfowlie: early screening for David Yates' TARZAN this Sat. 4/18 in Chicago! #Tarzan

It's over a year away. Don't think we'll be getting one for a while. Maybe a teaser sometime at the end of summer.
