4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons announced, nerds in uproar

Then there is the vast majority who don't give a crap about the geeky world of role-playing games at all -- but I suppose it's too late to claim that I fall into that category isn't it? :csad:

You have a "Lizard" avatar at SHHype... you're just as nerdy as the rest. :oldrazz: :oldrazz: :oldrazz:

:yay:

I'm not surprised, a lot of people have speculated that an announcement was forthcoming at GenCon. I thought it would be 2009 or 2010 before it arrived though.

It'll be interesting to see how things change; there have been rumors that the new Star Wars rules (which are excellent, btw) were a sort of beta test for D&D 4E.

+2 Damage
+2 Damage
+2 Damage

Take that Wizards of the Coast.

We weren't talking about KOTOR using some of the same principles, we were talking about the D&D sourcebooks being 'law' for D&D, when they aren't actually. KOTOR and table top games are entirely different entities, if KOTOR used some D&D elements, that was the decision of the programmer, not because its unbreakable RPG law that you have too. That said, I think the armor issue makes a great deal of common sense, and results in a more balanced game in KOTOR. You don't want your character too powerful or the game would be no fun.

But they used the 3rd edition of D&D to set up the entire rule system of the game. BioWare also did this for Neverwinter as well.

Also like said it would make sense about the armor in any other game, but everytime I couldn't use my force power because I had to much armor on. I kept thinking of a little character in the star wars universe that is pretty much all machine. Guess who that is. It just doesn't make sense to have that in this universe.

I find this embarrassing, not just because anytime you get into an uproar over D+D, that's hilarious, but also because, they even feel that they need these new rules, etc.

We played a game just like D+D when I was a kid, but I made it all up.
If you don't like the dork-milking, make up your own stuff.
It's way more fun anyway.

Whoa!

BTW, all.

This weekend I realized I've been saving, saving, saving...and my overlords just gave me a $250 bonus the other day.
So I thought, "I haven't bought any DVD's in a while." and went to look for some.

And I found something from my childhood.
There was a Made For TV Movie, trying to ride the wave of D+D hysteria in the 80's, about a group of kids who play D+D and one of them loses his mind and starts to behave as if the D+D world is real and someone gets killed while they're LARPing.

I was pretty excited to see it on DVD, but, when it came out, I didn't know the significance of the fact that it stars TOM HANKS.

lol, I advise everyone to watch it. It's called "Mazes and Monsters", and it's mind-blowing to see young Tom Hanks put his little figurine on the table and introduce his character
"I am Pardu, a Clerical Holyman....well-versed in spells of healing, but the most potent of these spells is the Tear of Maglathar, BlaBlaBla"

Hahaha, Tom Hanks, playing D+D, and taking it too seriously.
Watch it.

I got an xbox 360 on Saturday and got elder scroll 4, I think I am offical a nerd now :(

I just go into villages and kill everything I dont even play the game right :(

No wonder kids got picked on.

That's a young Jamie Gertz btw.

I haven't played D&D in a while, so I could care less about this. And when if I do get another game going with my friends, it'll probably be 2nd Edition or 3rd.

Never bought into 3.5 and I don't see any need to "upgrade" now. It's all about the storytelling and personal interaction anyway, rules be damned.

MUSCLES.
When I bought that game I thought I might sell it back.
Then I LEARNED how to play it and it's the best.
I was just playing it last night and I bought it way back when it came out.

Here's what I suggest to have fun.

Start off at the Arena and become Grand Champion.
That'll give you a lot of money and some magical armor.

Then, Go to Anvil 'cause there's a house there you can get for half price 'cause it's
haunted
. That way you'll have a place to keep your s***.

Then, complete the Mage Guild Quests, 'cause once you can get into the academy, you can make your own magical armor and weapons that do whatever you want!

You can make a helmet, chest-thing, pants, shoes, gloves, shield, necklace, and 2 rings...that EACH boost something.

Like, each one boosts your Sneak Skill 10 points?
Wear them all and now your Sneak is raised NINETY points :wow:

So then, talk to the crazy man in Anvil and do his Pilgrim Quest.
Sounds lame but it's cool and you get the Crusader's Armor and Sword and Mace!

Then complete the fighter's guild quests, and maybe go close the Gate at Kvatch.

This will have your Fame up high, to counteract it when you do the Hella-Wicked Assassin and Thieves Guild quests.

And after you become the freakin' HEAD of all the Guilds, THEN you can go around all bad-ass and do 50,000 OTHER fun quests,

and THEN, maybe work on...the ACTUAL MAIN QUEST, if you want.

The game is deep as f***!

Huh, I didn't know Carson still had a show.

Learn something new every day.

Wait, you mean that these geeks are accusing Wizards of the Coast of, wait for it, trying to make money? BY GEORGE!

I was introduced to D&D in middle school right at the height of the '80s parental paranoia about kids freaking out, performing black magic and committing suicide in the sewers. For a while my mom wouldn't buy me the Player's Handbook or the Dungeon Master's Guide because of the "devils" on the covers (actually Efreeti, but whatever). However, I was allowed to buy all the monster books like the Monster Manual, Deities & Demigods, and The Fiend Folio. Go figure.

My mom found my DMG when I was 11 and went into a fit of hysterics. I guess she thought I was sacrificing goats in the woods or something. Her preacher at the time advised her to collect it all and burn it. She ended up skimming through a few of 'em and I guess decided her baby boy wasn't a Satan worshipper because I came home from school a week later and all my stuff was on my desk.

I will do it tonight, and let you know. I also got Dead Rising, but cant find any cheat codes that I can put in to keep from dying and to from having unlimited ammo. I did find a car and kept running over zombies but then it got damaged.
