4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons announced, nerds in uproar

*rolls d20 for bump*

Hey Drakon, now that 4th edition has been out for a year now, any opinion as to its success? The people I used to play 3.5e with stopping playing IRL, but continued playing 4e via email, which does not appeal to me at all. So I have yet to really try it.

Hey dude I've played 4e since it came out and I love it. The more expansions that come out the less I like something so I was getting sick to death of 3.5. 4 makes things more streamlined once you get used to it and it also is inviting for new players.

I have a few friends who play 4e and most of them have misgivings on a few things, particularly the skill system and the simplicity of everything. Best summary of it that I've heard is this "It's an okay game, but it's not D&D, it just has the flavor of D&D."

Personally, I'm sticking with 3.5 and hoping that either Hasbro lets the license go or actually makes the game Dungeons and Dragons again.

Well, not two weeks after it came out, I ended up moving from my normal group, so other than DMing a small session or two with what is now my roomate, I haven't played much 4e, but what I played, I think I have to agree with Superferret: it's like D&D lite, almost like a shovelware tabletop game. But I am looking to set up a Facebook group for tabletop gamers here in NY.

I'd be interested in joining that Drak, sounds cool.

I've actually been trying to organize a 3.5 game over Skype or some other voice messenger system, possibly also using my cam to show the battlefield positions. It's coming around pretty good.

Nah, still in Denver, which is why I'm trying to play with my buddies over the 'net. The distance makes for a really secure DM screen. I was back home a few weeks back for summer break and I probably won't be back until December-ish (no way my mother will let me spend Christmas away).

Well, we'll be in touch, cause that could be fun doing it online, providing you're not a crap DM :hehe:

And what part of New York will you be coming back to? If you're by me, I'm sure I could spare a day or two to bullcrap with the Ferretus!

I'm not a crap DM (anymore), and I'm from Brooklyn, but I'm usually all over the city depending on who I'm hanging out with.

Ah, then that won't work, cause I'm in North Country [near Fort Drum]. PM Forthcoming with some contact info, so maybe we can get something together online.

Bump ...

Role Playing is always more fun when you make your own guidelines.
