50 Shades of Grey - Part 1

I think this movie probably should just go the route of Ang Lee's Lust, Caution and get a NC-17 rating, instead of trying to appease the MPAA and edit it down to a R rating. A movie like this shouldn't cost that much money anyway, since most the scenes are probably inside the bedroom between two B-list actors.

If Kingsman fails it has nothing to do with Fifty Shades. Kingsman was tracking pretty decently last I heard. Not saying tracking isn't often wrong but it's not some guaranteed failure.

Nc-17 is still poison at the box office, no !matter how graphic the material is. You basically have two R rated spectacle flicks opening up but one is pretty much a phenomenon and the other is more of a fanboy cult thing.

The shame about this is that from a screenwriting point of view, one could have acknowledged the material as utter **** and said, "Ok, I'm gonna take this idea and actually make it good and interesting." And it could have turned into a promising psycho-sexual thriller that raises questions about abusive relationships and whatever else is in the book that actually is controversial and turn it on its head. Use that stuff to your advantage in the writing and make it more thematic but still fresh and interesting.

Now I don't know how the reviews are, but judging from things here it doesn't seem that way.

Just picture it: It could have been this generation's Basic Instinct but the roles are reversed, with Dakota Johnston as the Michael Douglas of the film and that would have been ****ing incredible. You not only still maintain the inherent female interest, but you have a cool way to hook the guys too. Then you can use those controversial issues in an entertaining package and both sexes can get on the discussion.

I'll say this again. Studios like money, they aren't a charity. An NC 17 rated film would flop because a lot of theaters flat out refuse to show films with that rating. NC 17 rated films never make money.

Romanticized fetish's sells much more my friend.

You can still use that too, but at least wrap it up in an intelligent and thought provoking package.

But I'm just a voice on a message board, so really, no one really gives a **** about this.

On top of that I feel they'll let this movie particularly sneak a lot in with an R rating. Most PG-13 movies these days are equivalent to a good deal of R rated films of yesteryear.

Also that Unrated/NC-17 version (assuming there is one) will make a ton of money for DVD/Blu Ray sales.

My bet's on 65 opening weekend / 130s domestic / 250s worldwide. I can see fans going back to rewatch with friends instead of boyfriends.

Oh wow, I didn't realize Aaron Taylor's wife was directing this. Well then.

I don't think she was picked to direct 50 Shades because she's married to Kick-Ass. E.L. James probably recommended her for the gig.

But Ms. Taylor-Johnson has a great eye for visuals. The camerawork is really stunning. Depending on how big 50 Shades is, it'd be interesting to see her do more high profile gigs (rather than a "50 Shades" sequel)

I never said she was...

I just had no idea she was directing. She's a pretty damn good director and was just surprised to see she was directing this is all.

While I haven't read "50 Shades", there was a movie A Dangerous Method where there were several scenes of BDSM, like Michael Fassbinder spanking or whipping a restrained Keira Knightley. That was R-rated but that's pretty light stuff.

There was a screening of the film, with the author and stars in attendance, and announced that Universal will make the two sequels.

So one of my friends who is a girl, want me to go with her to see this movie this weekend. Now we are just friends ( no romantic feelings between us ) but I think it's kinda weird. I guess it's because her girl friends are gonna be with their boyfriends so I guess she didn't want to go alone. But I am a guy and I don't know much about this. This is a chick flick for sure and it's gonna be ackward for me to be in a theater with mostly likely 90-95% girls having orgasms in their seats. Should I just back out or suck it up and be a friend and go see it with her? I definitely was planning on seeing Kingsman this weekend too, but she doesn't really want to see it..

You're deciding whether to go see 50 Shades of Grey with a girl, a graphically sexual film she's inviting you to see, or just go see Kingsman.

Man, I don't even. :o

Well, then do exactly like her. :oldrazz:

Spies before sadomasochists, yo!

She's more or less leaving the door open, man. Both of them.

So you saying I should go? Like I said, me are the girl are just good friends, I have never had romantic feelings towards her ( even though she is a cute girl) it's just been more of a close friendship than anything else. She never given me any indication she liked me beyond friendship. So that's why it's weird she inviting me to see 50 shades with her. It's just kinda ackward you know?! I think it's just because she is lonly since her girls are gonna be with their BF's this weekend. Besides, this movie isn't for males. So I doubt there would be much in it for me.

If you're not comfortable, don't go. It does seem odd that she'd ask a male friend to go see something like this if she wasn't implying something, but hey. It is kinda asking somebody if they wanna go see porn with you.
