I've got to hand it to DC. I've effectively quit buying ongoing comics - only going for trades and back-issues now - but damn it if they haven't been reeled me back in for at least a few #1's. These are the titles I'll be picking up and why.
- Batwing #1 because, damn it, a black Batman patrolling Africa sounds like fun. Really. That cover just looks so hokey, with the wings and all (and the name, the name!). I just can't resist the idea of a book with a black Batman. I can't.
- Justice League International #1, just to get an idea of where that title will be going. Of the team books, it's easily the one that appeals to me the most (yes, even more than Suicide Squad, but more on that later). I enjoyed Generation Lost and the team is just made up of win.
- Mister Terrific #1 because he deserved a title of his own and now I'm intrigued (and worried!) what will become of it. This can either go well or it can go very very wrong. They really need to hit it out of the ball park with this one, but considering the nature of the relaunch, I wouldn't be surprised if they did away with most of the things that appeal to me in Mr. Terrific - which is his awesomeness at being awesome.
- Suicide Squad #1 because I can't properly call myself a fan of the Suicide Squad if I don't at least pick up the new title. But that cover is ridiculous, the team could be better and I'm not sure if I want to read a Squad without Ostrander. Otherwise, peachy keen.
- Action Comics #1 and Superman #1 because I need to know what they're going to do with Superman. Is he still married? Why did they give him that awful costume? Is Jonathan Kent alive again? How much will Grant Morrison rock this book? So many questions I need answers to and I'll be very pissed if they **** up Superman.
There's undoubtedly a few more books I will pick up when I'm actually at the comic shop in September. All Star Western is good for a look, as is Animal Man, Resurrection Man and Justice League Dark (although, ugh on the title).
Oh, and Batgirl #1. Because what is up with that?
