29. The Guest (2014)*

I don't know what I was expecting but I don't think it was this, and I'm very happy about that. This is a great flick and I'm glad I splurged on the Second Sight LE set on word of mouth alone.

I probably have a D&D game tonight so I probably won't finish this list until deep into November 1st. Par for course with me.

And then on to the next marathon for November.

Glad you enjoyed The Guest, man. A favorite of ours as well. And have fun at your D&D game. Great night for it. :D

29. Pumpkinhead

Fun creature design, even if it didn't live up to much to the expectation of the creature killing the group that killed a kid. Very unsympathetic group I wanted to see killed. Plus Lance Henrickson is fun.

30. The Final Girls

Just love this movie. The cast is wonderful, some absolute great bits, and the movie resonates with me emotionally. It will be part of my yearly tradition.

31. Trick R'Treat

Just the perfect Halloween movie. I am sad that Sam hasn't gotten a sequel.

Night 30...Halloween without Michael Myers? Works surprisingly well.

Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

Man did they shoot themself in the foot with this.
Naming it different would have made this far better.
Instead they broke the movies neck by calling it Halloween 3 but without Michael Myers.

Im glad people slowly come around and see the movie for itself, because the movie is not bad.
Its a really good Halloween Themed movie with good ideas and solid made.
Had a lot of fun with it.

Silent Hills P.T., movie edition.

Not the wisest choice to watch this right before bed.

Ti West watched a lot of Texas Chain Saw and Boogie Nights during his hiatus. :o

I've always been a fan of Ti West. His dialogue is usually minimalist and functional. But I believe co-writer Mia Goth contributed a lot to the script because the dialogue really stands out compared to the rest of his filmography. This is becoming one of my favorite movies. West's best.

Halloween (2018) dir. David Gordon Green

Hey, DGG and McBride... can y'all cast Andi Matichak in The Righteous Gemstones or The Exorcist: Deceiver? Thank you!

This was a pretty solid improvement over the last movie which I didn't hate but it was a bit underwhelming in the end, especially when it got to the BIG reveal. This on the other hand felt more like a return to form of what made the first movie so enjoyable eventhough it doesn't have as crazy of an ensemble cast. Branagh really did a wonderful job with the direction in this and I loved how gorgeous the film looked. It definitely gave me Gothic Horror vibes at times which made it feel unique enough from the first two movies.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of these kinds of big budget mystery films but sadly looking at how this did at the BO that's looking pretty unlikely but hopefully it does find a bigger audience on streaming.

7/10

Definitely on my list for every spooky season going forward.

Bite-Sized Review: The most basic of the trilogy, and a tad too long. But the music and two lead performances more then make up for it.

Trick 'r Treat

You know when you made an all-time classic when you can watch this movie 20 times and still find something new and interesting. And my boy Sam is one of a kind.

41. Chopping Mall (1986) dir. Jim Wynorski
tumblr_opslm5rbfC1rp0vkjo1_500.gif

Quote of the film: "The middle one has a certain ethnic look to it."

First time watching it. God, the 80s really were the peak of movies. I love this kind of nonsense. Movies just don't have this same kind of charm.

42. John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) dir. John Carpenter
f47bd6323660edc7c1660ab3b6e53993cb7ed7d9.gif

Quote of the film: "I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up"

My favorite horror movie of all time. It's not Halloween without it.

43. The Thing (1982) dir. John Carpenter
182135.gif

Quote of the film: "I'm a real light sleeper, Childs."

I will never forget the first time I saw the dog transform into the monster as 13yr old watching it in my living room with my friends. A memory that will always stick with me. Practical filmmaking. Nothing will ever top it at its peak. Kurt Russell is awesome in this, but Keith David really should get more shoutouts for how great he is in this.

44. The Shining (1980) dir. Stanley Kubrick
the-shining.gif

Quote of the film: "Darling? Light, of my life. I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in!"

Arguably the greatest horror movie of all time. Everything is perfect. 'Nuff said.

45. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1978) dir. Bill Melendez
4zlL.gif

Quote of the film: "I got a rock..."

It's been a long while since I've watched this, and it's honestly better than I remembered it. Such a fantastic feel good short, that cracked me up. The animation is beautiful. Snoopy's segment in particular is beautiful. I hope future generations never let this be forgotten.

46. Possession (1978) dir. Andrzej Żuławski
possession-isabelle-adjani.gif

Quote of the film: *illegible screeching*

Yup. Still as weird as I remember.
