7.06 - Lara - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I saw purple too, but there was also some pink there. I think it's just SV's way of showing us that this foundation is a combination of Lana's Luthorian revenge-seeking (evol) side, and her altruistic side. I love when they say things with color on this show. That never gets old for me.

Nope. Never does get old for me either.

And the wedding colors in promise were a mix of purple and pink...

There are two things that come to my mind. Isis possessed great magic - which reminds me that Lana at one time also possessed magic - Isis/Isobel?

Also, the concept of Isis being able to bring people back from the dead, could just be a very basic metaphor for the foundation restoring peoples previous (pre-meteor infected) lives back to them, or at least helping them to find new life with their infections.

Maybe...

That might make sense.

Here's my review...

Not the worst episode ever but not the best either. I enjoyed it immensely but I had to count it down a bit for various reasons.

I just rewatched the episode and thought about something that you mentioned in your review and why I didnt notice it intially. You made mention about Clark not having alot of screen time, but you know what I think the difference was with this episode as opposed to some of the episodes last year..... alot of the scenes that he wasnt in, were in fact actually about him. To me, its amazing how much of a difference and an impact that has on me as a viewer in relation to the story.

Triplet i never tire of your reviews I enjoy readlingthem they often make me chuckle cause you say things that ihave said while watching the episode. lol Your a good writer and i enjoy your wit. Good job on the review.

Did all the times that Clark has lied before bother you though? The thing is, when Clark lies, it's not malicious, but usually with the best of intentions behind it. He's always trying to protect the people he cares about, and I think in the case of the crystal, he was trying to keep Kara away from it since her search for it has only led her into great peril. Lying to Lionel was again, to protect Kara. Just as he felt he had to lie to protect Lana (and everyone else) for so long, he's doing the same for Kara.

Absolutely right.

Clark lies when he thinks he is protecting his secret, or someone else...
Later, I believe he will learn, through great loss, that the lies ultimately were not for the good, and thus will become "The Man Who Never Lies".

I think he will ultimately lose everyone he cares for, except Lois, and perhaps his mom.

He will decide it's all his fault for lying, and vow never to lie again, at least to his loved ones, for this reason.

Was the agents method of experimenting on Kara supposed to be the same procedure that Dr. Garner invented and used on Lex and Clark in "Memoria"?

Cuz its pretty damn similar to how Garner experimented on Clark and Lex

...borderline rip-off.

Well, how many ways of experimenting with kryptonite can there be without them seeming generally the same?

Garner however didn't exactly inject the kryptonite fluid inside anyone's body, but I guess it's fair the assume that it got in through the skin, at least. I can't recall if they were choking on it or not.

No EL is Star & Kal is Child :super:

Actually, while cooking I thought that it's prolly that way. Wonder what Zor and Jor mean... and if Lara (and Kara) has also a meaning, and are they written Lara-El, and so on.

Jor-EL & Lara Lor-Van - EL

Zor-EL & Allura In-Ze - EL

Kal-EL

Kara Zor-EL

Although, someone PM'd me the explanation of clark's birth name.

It's Kryptonian for Star Child.

Kal = Child & El = Star

In the comic books Kal-El is Kryptonian for Star Child. :super:

Yeah, I know now...

:D

No, it's not a rip-off. Carter mentioned that they used the same technique that Sommerholt (Dr. Garner) developed.

Didn't I mention that in my review?

*checks*

Yeah, I did.

And the evil Agent Carter (Named as a possible nod to X-files creator, Chris Carter?) mentioning the memory experiments from Season 3's "Memoria" (one of my favorites of the series) was beautiful. It makes sense, given what Dr. Garner had done, that his work might continue and bear some lovely fruit later on in the series, but actually putting a Kryptonite drip into Kara's vein?

YOUCH!

:D

Hey, I should ask open questions in my reviews more often!

I got a reply from the Smallvill Magazine's editor about what Tom imagines when he's being poisoned by Kryptonite!

Hi Triplet,

My names Jonathan and I'm the Editor of Smallville Magazine!

Just to answer your question - Laura was told by Tom that the best way to act as if you are poisoned by kryptonite is to pretend you have a stomach ache, according to an interview that we are running in our next issue!

All best,

Jonathan

:D

Awesome, I'd always wondered.

Tom and his acting techniques. He's a pro at stomach aches by now.

Hey, that's too cool.

I wonder just how many people out there read your reviews. Its too bad that you didnt get an answer from Tom himself. :cwink:

When he thinks of Lana the ache is a little lower than his tummy. ;)

For Tom to distill it down to just "pretend you have a stomach ache" is funny....

:D

He's just adorable.

From what I read about him, he strikes me as the kind of the guy who will give advice on acting. He seems really helpful.

I find that I usually agree on most points with your reviews (not that you would even expect that :cwink: )but even when I don't agree, I always like them. You are very objective and I really appreciate that in a reviewer. We all have our bias and personal POV but you do a really nice job of not letting that taint your review. Thanks. :yay:

I think he is really helpful to new actors especially.

For example, the guy who played Arthur (Alan Richson) hadn't really acted before and his performance in Aqua was very uneven, BUT his best scenes were the ones he was in with Tom.

I don't think that's a coincidence.

That is way cool. :word:

other than "geeky nerdy kid" with top level security clearance i liked the ep

i liked the bit were Clark smacked down at Kara's chest in a last ditch effort to revive her.
